"I wouldn’t get my tree service done by anyone else! Timberline was extremely responsive, helpful and efficient. I spoke with Chris on the phone about having someone come look at my trees and Benjamin was at my home later that day. Benjamin was honest about what trees needed to come down and the price he gave was competitive and very reasonable. Surface-level tree roots might only pose a small threat, such as being a tripping hazard or obstacle when you mow your lawn. The best time to trim trees is in late fall through winter when the tree has slowed its growing for the year. Cold weather stops insects and fungal growth from attacking a new tree wound. Generally, you should prune around 20% of an apple tree’s growth—and never more than 30%. This means that if you have a severely overgrown tree, it can take a few seasons to prune it back enough to produce the healthiest fruit. 

If you’re dealing with a newly planted or juvenile tree, hold off on pruning beyond the initial shaping. Wait at least a couple of seasons into fruit production since pruning can increase the number of water sprouts and unproductive foliage.

Generally, avoid trimming trees in the summer (with the exception of pruning fruit trees as needed). Trees use a lot of energy in the summer, most of which is relegated to new growth. If you chop it too early, you could stunt the next season's growth. Again, when in doubt, do some research based on the specific tree type.
