"This young man was a Godsend for our family. We called many electricians, but all of them were booking out for months. Reid was able to come three days after we called him. We needed him to start service at our new house. He had to dig to install conduits, put in the breaker box, fix a disconnect box and an outdoor outlet outside the house, just so we could get electricity. All of that was done very nicely and professionally. And he cleaned up when he was done. He even helped us coordinate with the electric company. Any questions we had, he answered with the utmost patience and knowledge. He was just an excellent electrician, and we were very lucky to find him. And, his price was very reasonable too. I would hire Reid anytime! In fact, we have a few more projects lined up for him. My neighbors saw the good work that he did at our house, and so they are having him do some jobs at their house too."

Customers say: Quick response

"Anthony was very attentive to my project on an old building. He sought out a safe and viable solution to change out an old fuse box and relocate with a new breaker box. He was quick with a response to my request, inspection and quickly gave a solution with a quote. Once I accepted, he scheduled my work right away. He was also prompt on the day of installation and did the work professionally and quickly. I recommend A & A Electric and I would even recommend Anthony to my family and friends. - Pastor Jeff"

"Pleasure to work with on recessed lighting install. Ken was responsive to questions and time changes via email/phone. We removed the old lighting, did some of the recessed lighting layout, and obtained the materials (he reviewed to make sure it was OK). His installation and electrical work was handled professionally and on schedule. Any adjustments were reviewed with me as a courtesy. We thought the price was fair for the work done. Nice job."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Whole-house generators can run continuously for extended periods, even for weeks at a time (around 400 to 500 hours), as long as they have a sufficient fuel supply. However, this type of extensive use will increase wear and tear and can shorten the generator's overall lifespan. During long periods of operation, it's important to check and refill the engine oil as needed, potentially as frequently as daily depending on the model. If your generator uses a fuel tank, ensure it is kept full to prevent unexpected shutdowns.

Whole-house generators need to be installed on level ground several feet away from walls and other objects. Because they tap into the electrical system directly, they usually need to be close to your home electrical panel for a transfer switch installation. It also helps with installation if they are near to a gas line or propane tank installation.

A home that is 2,500 square feet will likely need a 20kW to 25kW generator. Consult your local generator installer to confirm the generator size needed to power your home before purchasing a new one. Be sure to consider how much power your necessary devices need to run.

Most homeowners won't be able to claim a home generator as a tax write-off. However, a whole-house generator may be tax-deductible in certain situations depending on its purpose. For instance, if it's needed to power essential medical equipment, it may qualify as a medical expense deduction. Also, in some cases, businesses can deduct a generator as a business expense if it supports operations. Always consult a tax professional to determine eligibility based on your specific circumstances and the applicable IRS regulations.

Here’s what you can run with different wattages and types of generators:

Portable generator:

  • 2,000 watts can handle a large appliance like a freezer or refrigerator, plus a few smaller items like phones or computer chargers.

  • 4,000 watts will keep two large appliances operating and a few smaller devices.

  • 8,000 watts should power most essential appliances and other devices, including a sump pump, well pump, or your dishwasher.

Partial to whole-house generator:

  • 20,000 watts and above will make it seem like your home’s power is still on.
