On time and cheerful, he pointed out the great things about the house and the not so great things. He made sure we understood what needed to be done whether it was a little bit of caulk, removing shrubs or major work. Unfortunately, the home was a lot more then we bargained for. He gave us rough estimates as to what we were looking at for repair costs. We decided at the half way point that the work was too much and we stopped the inspection. He was more then understanding and even returned some of the inspection cost. We were shocked as he didn't need to do that. He's an honest man and was an absolute pleasure to do business with. He gave us a detailed report at the end and I will recommend Paul to everyone. From the initial contact to our first meeting, Steve was on time, ready to do business and ready to listen to what I needed to accomplish. My home had been gutted and renovated by a less-than-skilled contractor. I lived with the sloping floors and cracking floor tiles for several years, but it seemed to me that the house continued to move in an alarming fashion. I asked a realtor friend who he was using for his home repairs and he turned me on to Do-It-Now. Steve identified my issues immediately and graphically explained his experience in doing similar work. Steve and his crew worked swiftly and quietly with great attention to detail leaving no trace of my home being a construction site. I waited to write this to see how the house might settle following the work. The result is as perfect as can be expected in a house approaching its second century. Knowing that Steve was an Army veteran made writing the check a lot easier. I'm planning more work for this company at present. In our conversations, I should note that Steve told me his company works regionally throughout central and Western New York. So.... We had 6 wooden dining room chairs which were my grandmother's (so at least 60 years old, as she died at 90ish); wooden backs, seats worn through and what appeared to be kapok stuffing falling out here and there. Not particularly good quality chairs I don't think, but of sentimental value to me. We also had another, nonmatching wooden chair which I wanted reupholstered in a matching fabric. All had dings and scratches and occasional loose joints, and we had put sticky felt on the bottoms of the legs to avoid scratching our dining room floor. I telephoned to ask if he could do the job, phone was answered promptly and pleasantly by Mr. Hayden himself, appt made for us to bring chairs to him the following day (a Saturday in early June 2013). I did not have upholstery cloth picked out, he said fine to get it elsewhere (he could tell us how much needed after seeing chairs) or he had some we could look at. Address he wanted chairs brought to was different from that listed as Havenhouse Upholstery on Google (it appears on Google as Havenhouse all one word); appeared to be his home when we got there. He had a furniture-filled workshop in his back garage which is where we dropped off the chairs; he had about a dozen different rolls of upholstery cloth of different patterns/fabrics in the back of his minivan and we chose one we liked from that selection (I am perfectly happy with what we chose, but do not consider myself a picky shopper in matters of style -- durability and stain resistance more important as we have kids, and he recommended some of what he brought as more durable than other fabrics, we chose from those). Estimate was $575 for reseating/upholstery/stain guarding and $200 for repairs to chairs (he said refinishing was not recommended for chairs like these, and that was not our focus anyway), paid by check $250 deposit. He said it would take several weeks. Late June I called to check and let him know we would be unreachable for a week, he said he was almost done. As arranged he called me after we returned to arrange pickup, appt made for next day. He stated repairs had been more extensive than estimated and would be an extra $75 (I made no quibbles). Place to pick up was another different address. I had to call to confirm address twice (trouble entering into GPS) but each time Mr. Hayden answered right away himself and was immediately helpful. and quot;Haven House Upholsteryand quot; or similar not seen on signage of building at that address when I arrived so I phoned; he drove to where I was (took 1 minute) and led me back to a storage unit containing a workspace and lots of furniture including our chairs. He helped me load up and I paid remainder by check to him personally, receiving receipt with both Haven House Upholstery and his name at the top which lays out work done nicely but does not include tax line (I have to assume sales tax was included in the price). Quality of the work: seats look great, very comfortable to sit on with good firm/soft balance for both me (short and fat) and husband (tall and thin), fabric fits tightly and is beautifully folded over corners and evenly trimmed underneath, a lot better than the original seats even before they wore through. The fabric we chose had a herringbone pattern which would show minor faults in alignment easily and this was perfectly aligned on each chair. Wood had greatly diminished ding/scratch appearance, still present (as expected) but have to look a lot harder to find them. Joints very stable now, no leaked glue visible (if he used glue; I didn't ask how he made repairs). Unasked, he had replaced the sticky felt pads under each chairleg with the same color and thickness we had used. Overall, I am very pleased with the work quality. Timing and what would and could not be done was all accurately explained in words I could understand. Cost was a bit more than original estimate but I believe the chairs deserved this as he hadn't tested the joints a lot before making his estimate, and this is not a visible problem. I had expected more of a storefront experience given the name and quot;Havenhouse Upholsteryand quot; but reaching and dealing with Mr. Hayden was easy at all times. My only concern is the lack of evidence of having paid sales tax on the receipt, which I did not notice until I got home. I would use him again if needed; he seems to be a real craftsman who cares about quality and that is well worth putting up with a slightly less-than-slick business demeanor. "Mike previously purchased supplies and did roofing work for us, and we were pleased. However, he noticed a faulty electrical socket connected to our heat tape and offered to replace it. He requested and was paid a substantial amount to purchase supplies for the socket and stated a return date to be three days later. He did not return, he did not answer any texts, phone calls and emails. Finally, he did respond and gave another return date which was about ten days later but still did not show up or answer texts, emails or phone calls. I am adding to this review: 3/14/2020: I have been reimbursed for the supplies not purchased and the work not done. I have added a separate review but it is still pending. The work Mike did for us was good. The first three times he responded quickly and arrived promptly as promised. Good communication is essential, and the lack of it is why I wrote the negative review. UPDATE 3/16/2020: Our roof was leaking badly. Mike responded to our call quickly, and came to help us on a weekend. He shoveled part of the roof and attended to the horrid ice dam. He returned two more times and shoveled and got rid of two more ice dams. He was a very hard worker and also seemed knowledgeable. I felt that he deserved a good review for the good work that he did on our roof. I also should note that the charge was very high, (hence the lower score for value for money) but we were glad to have someone show up to do the work. He returned the money today that we gave him to do the electrical work. (see other review by James B. - Breckenridge) I do not know why he suddenly stopped responding. I have to add because of that, I would be hesitant to consider him."

Repair Countertops questions, answered by experts
Laminate isn’t the most forgiving material, and you can only repair small scratches and gouges. For this reason, you should purchase a few extra planks when you first lay down your floor, so you don’t have to worry about trying to find a matching plank later down the line.
There are numerous pros and cons of laminate countertops, but peeling laminate is a relatively simple repair. To reglue the countertop, you’ll need to use contact cement intended for laminate countertops and apply a thin layer below the peeled area. Lay a heavy object, like a book, over the area while the contact cement dries to prevent it from re-lifting.
First, use the right blade, which we’ve already discussed. However, there are other ways to prevent chipping, such as using painter’s tape to mark the edges. It creates a clear, easy-to-see line. Cutting from the top down can also prevent chipping when using a blade with horizontal teeth. You may also want to cut from the back of the laminate sheet toward you to better stay on the line and keep your speed consistent.
To prevent Formica from chipping when cutting, use a sharp blade appropriate for the laminate surface. It also helps to score a line first. Another tip is to add masking over the line you plan to cut and ensure you are cutting the Formica face down.
Contact cement is the best glue for resticking laminate to countertops. For best results, find a product that specifically states that it can be used to secure laminate countertops, such as 3M High-Strength Spray Adhesive, Weldwood Contact Cement, Gorilla Max Strength Clear Construction Adhesive, or 3M Fastbond. Before gluing, sand the area you plan to glue to remove any large debris and to rough it up for better adhesion.
