"Phil was a great help in the design of our new kitchen. He took our ideas and implemented them into a design that met all of our requirements and exceeded our expectations. He was involved in everything from start to finish and was available if we had any issues. When construction began the crew showed up when scheduled and were on time each and every day. The employees were very approachable and willing to make any changes that were needed. They took care of any problems they came across. The finished project was done on time and looked perfect. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to do a kitchen remodel project. We intend to hire them again to do our bathroom in the near future."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Epoxy is typically more affordable than granite, especially if you’re choosing a high-end slab. Most granite countertops cost $75 to $145 per square foot to install, with high-end varieties topping $185 per square foot.

In contrast, epoxy countertops cost $50 to $150 per square foot to install. The material costs for epoxy are significantly lower than granite, but installation costs can be higher. Rather than simply cutting granite countertops to size before installation, your contractor will need to carefully pour the epoxy over an existing surface.

The best budget-friendly countertop option depends on personal preference. Concrete is a great alternative to more expensive materials, as it can be cured and treated for unique designs. Another cheap material worth considering is plywood. It can be laminated or stained to suit nearly any aesthetic. Granite remnants are also a good choice.

New countertops can last for anywhere between 15 and 50 years, with the exact lifespan depending on the material:

  • Quartz: 50 to 100 years

  • Marble: 50 to 100 years

  • Granite: 50 to 100 years

  • Laminate: 15 to 20 years

  • Concrete: 20 to 30 years

  • Tile: 40 to 100 years

Keep in mind some materials are more likely to stain and chip than others, which is an important factor to consider when it comes to the longevity of your countertops. Some materials also need special cleaning and maintenance, like tile countertops, which need grout cleaning, and concrete countertops, which need resealing.

Porcelain countertops have a fairly long life span, sometimes lasting for decades. Depending on how much wear and tear you put your countertops through, it could last 25 to 50 years. But be warned, porcelain is also prone to cracking, so as long as you take good care of it, you’ll have those countertops looking brand new for years to come.

Kitchen counters are 36 inches high because that’s considered the ideal height for the average American adult, which is 5’9” for men and 5’4” for women. A three-foot counter height lets most people comfortably chop, cook, and clean without straining their backs, necks, and shoulders.
