"Alan arrived on time and after a survey of the work needed gave an estimate within an hour and scheduled the work within the week. Alan's crew arrived promptly and performed all the work carefully, removed and returned items on the deck and porch. The entire work was performed to our satisfaction. Happy with the work done and will use West Side in the future.

"The provider came to our house to assess the problem.  They had installed the gutters a few years before, so we called them as we
liked their work.  The provider sent a worker out the next day.  He repaired the flashing and the siding, and found the ice dam problem.
He returned to install a heating cable for the gutters.  He worked in a diligent and professional manner.

"Damien & Team are simply AMAZING. Our property looks GREAT. I would, and will use them again. Damien called after everything was done, to see if we were satisfied. I raved and raved about the work that was done.

"The porch had a lot of external water damage which was as evidenced by shingles falling off, as Mark removed the shingles he discovered interior damage as well. He consulted us with each discovery as the expenses grew. We were very pleased with the final product and so was the code enforcer for the town. We have since hired this company for more work."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

You can sometimes install a fence over a gas line. Fence installation typically requires a two-foot depth for posts, so if the lines are shallower than two feet, you cannot put a fence post over the line. You’ll need to call 811 to get the gas lines located and marked before you start the project.

Installing a picket fence includes measuring and marking the area where you plan to build the fence, laying out all of the materials, digging post holes, setting the posts using concrete, measuring the rails, attaching the rails, attaching the pickets, and then painting or staining the fence if you chose a wooden fence material

The recommended height for a garden fence depends on its primary purpose. For pest control, the necessary height varies by animal. To keep out small pests like rabbits, a fence should be at least two to three feet tall. If you live in an area with deer, you will need a much taller fence, at least five feet high, to prevent them from jumping over. If the main goal is privacy, the fence should be at least seven feet tall. For purely decorative fences, the height is a matter of personal preference.

Privacy fences in residential neighborhoods tend to stand between 6 and 8 feet tall, but local building code usually dictates the maximum height. Livestock fences that border large land plots range from 3 to 6 feet. Shorter, decorative fences, which are common in front yards, are around 3 feet tall, on average. Fence height also tends to vary by material, with wood fences usually sitting at 6 feet tall, and chain-link and wrought iron fences tending to sit at half that.

While most homeowners aren't required to tell their neighbors that they’re putting up a fence, it's certainly a good idea to do so. Not only is it considerate to give neighbors a heads up about construction noise, but building a fence may limit your neighbors' access to their own backyards while building is taking place.
