"I purchased an old house on the lake that was in need of much repair. I asked Scott to come in and give me a quote on the hardwood floors which were very old and worn. He told me he could make them look new. I was a bit skeptical. By the time these floors were done it looks like a brand new house. The old flooring looks so worm and inviting. The new floors flow so nice with the look of the refinished hardwood floors. The new kitchen and bathroom floors are vinyl and very easy to clean. We love our new floors and how we get brag about them to all our neighbors"

"Iâ m notoriously bad at making a decision and they made it simple! Seeing the samples in my space and with their helpful input I made the perfect choice! The floor went in yesterday and I couldnâ t be happier with the floor and the experience! This was my second floor purchased through them and when I become ready for another I wouldnâ t call anyone else."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on carpet quality, labor, underlayment, and furniture moving requirements.

Carpeting lasts between 10 and 15 years in most cases, but keep an eye out for common signs that it's time to replace it. Persistent smells despite deep cleaning, faded color, worn-down carpet padding, and general wear and tear are signs that it's time to tear it up. If you are experiencing allergy issues indoors, this could also be a sign that new flooring is the key to a fresher home.

In addition to local hardware stores, many big-box chains and national equipment rental companies carry floor sanders for rent. Additionally, U-Sand, manufacturers of a random orbital floor sander, operate a rental program in partnership with a number of different regional chains and local outlets. Make sure to thoroughly compare the prices at all the stores nearest you—while the costs average out to a similar range across dealerships, some of them offer significantly better rates for long-term rentals than others.

If you also need to know how to fill the gap between the floor and the baseboard, it's best to use a flexible, paintable latex caulk. Clean the area thoroughly to remove dust and debris. Then, apply a smooth bead of caulk along the gap using a caulking gun, and use a caulk-smoothing tool to press and smooth it into place. If the gap is large, you may need to insert backer rod, such as a foam filler, before caulking. Once dry, paint the caulk to match the baseboard for a clean, seamless look.

When considering cork flooring pros and cons, you may have toyed with the idea of getting other types of flooring, including hardwood. But how does it compare in price? Your new cork flooring can cost less than hardwood, depending on the wood type you choose. Cork costs about $5 to $19 per square foot, while hardwood costs $6 to $25 per square foot.
