"We are MORE than satisfied with Skyline. Zack came out and quickly covered the damage on our roof and answered all my questions. He was a pleasure to work with. He is very knowledgeable and always answered my calls and text. From when the crew arrived till they left I was TOTALLY impressed with the Crew. They have a very strong work ethic and need to do the job the right way. I am a perfectionist and Iâ ll tell you I could not find any problems. The roof is perfect and they completely cleaned up after themselves. There is NOT one mark from any shingles on the house. In this day and age of companies doing jobs, and the workers they hire, you never know what you will get. Iâ ll tell you, you WILL be pleased with this company and crew. I am extremely happy I used them. The roof is beautiful. Thank you very much Built Right and crew!"

"We used NY Roofing for a roof drain issue at our building in Manhattan. Water wasn?t draining the way it should and was starting to sit around the drain after heavier rain, so we wanted to get it looked at before it caused a bigger problem. They explained what needed to be repaired and were pretty straightforward about the whole thing. The crew worked on the drain and surrounding area and made sure the water was actually flowing properly before they wrapped up. What I liked was that this wasn?t turned into some huge project when it didn?t need to be. Communication was good, the guys working were easy to deal with, and they cleaned up after themselves. We?ve had rain since the repair and the water is draining much better now instead of collecting in that area. It was a good experience with NY Roofing. Roof drainage problems can turn into something much worse if they?re ignored, so I?m gla"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Fall is widely considered the best time of year to replace a roof. The moderate temperatures are ideal for roofing crews to work and for new shingles to seal properly. Additionally, autumn weather is often drier, reducing the risk of weather-related delays compared to the rainier spring season.

While spring is also a viable option, the higher chance of rainfall can slow down the project. The main drawback to a fall installation is that it's the peak season for roofers, which can lead to higher prices and scheduling challenges.

To potentially save money, you could consider scheduling your roof replacement during the summer or winter off-seasons. However, both seasons have significant disadvantages. Extreme summer heat can make shingles too soft to handle, while winter's cold, snow, and ice can create dangerous working conditions and prevent shingles from sealing correctly, as they typically require temperatures above 40-45°F.

DIY is possible for minor repairs. Professional services ensure proper sealing and alignment for larger issues.

The roof pitch on a Cape Cod house is normally 8/12 or 10/12, meaning the roof rises 8 to 10 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal run. This is steeper than the now-standard 6/12 pitch, as Cape Cod homes were originally popular in northern states, where the steeper pitch helped snowfall slide readily off the roof.

You can only overlay a roof once. Any additional layers of shingles will add too much weight and may also violate building codes. Once your roof has had an overlay, you’ll need to have a full roof replacement, including a tear-off of all existing roofing materials, when it’s time for a new roof.

Chimney crowns are located above the final brick layer at the top of a chimney. It’s important to get regular chimney maintenance and inspection, because it is near impossible to spot chimney crown damage without getting on your roof.
