"By far the best company. I had several companies come out for estimates. Superior Fence was prompt, courteous and had fair prices. Paul and his crew did an amazing job and had my fence done in 2 days. It looks amazing! The quality by far exceeded my expectations."

Small jobs welcome

"Devin is a very pleasant and polite guy who does quality work. He helped us salvage a poorly built front porch (another contractors work) and after he put his finishing touches on it for us, it is now looking much better. He took it to the next level with some custom built pieces and even added some built-in lighting. Would highly recommend him for any project. If he doesnâ  t know how to do something himself he will admit it and do what he can to get in touch with someone who can help you."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Ideally, your concrete should set slightly above ground at an angle sloping away from the fence post. This will add extra support and allow water to run away from the wood fence post. Keeping water out will help prevent wood rot. Additionally, you can add soil on top of the concrete for a seamless finish.

Privacy fences in residential neighborhoods tend to stand between 6 and 8 feet tall, but local building code usually dictates the maximum height. Livestock fences that border large land plots range from 3 to 6 feet. Shorter, decorative fences, which are common in front yards, are around 3 feet tall, on average. Fence height also tends to vary by material, with wood fences usually sitting at 6 feet tall, and chain-link and wrought iron fences tending to sit at half that.

If you only use your gate as a pedestrian, walking through without a vehicle, you’re fine to stick with a single fence gate. If your fence opening needs to accommodate vehicles of any kind, from cars to trucks to 4-wheelers, then a double fence gate will suit the space much better and give you more freedom.

To choose where to add a fence gate, know where fence gates shouldn’t go. For example, you should avoid placing gates over low spots on the ground where water can collect and form muddy puddles. Many ranchers install gates at the corner of a fence. Certain gate placements may also be required depending on the type of gate latch you use.

In the vast majority of cases, chain-link fences are less expensive than wood fences. Installing a wood fence costs anywhere from 20% to 30% more than a chain-link fence, or an average of $3,100, whereas a similarly sized chain-link fence will average around $2,400. Even with add-ons and additional protective finishes, a chain-link fence is very likely to cost you less than a wood fence. The only exception would be a split rail wood fence, which can cost about half the price of a chain-link fence or less.
