"It was a great pleasure to work with Paul. He is very considerate and accommodating. He communicated very well before and during the installation. He offered life time warranty of the fence, which provides peace of mind. Highly recommend!"

"As any caring homeowner knows, it is challenging to find quality help when it comes to home repairs and improvements. In November 2015 I met a team of workers that not only met, but exceeded my expectations. I had originally called for some deck and fence work; some outside repairs, but after seeing the finished product I happily invited them back for more work in-home. Once electrical and plumbing issues were address and resolved I immediately booked them for painting my living room, complete with cathedral ceilings. With great respect to my furniture and treasured possessions, they diligently spent one entire week conscientiously working with attention to detail and improving upon my original suggestions. They were courteous and professional in every way. We will be working on future projects, making my dream home come true."

"They were very good communicating and actually came ahead of schedule. They were very professional and courteous. The cost and service was great and they went above and beyond. I had a section of the duct that came apart. I had taped it. They reattached it for me. They inspected and tested everything as well as cleaning both of my furnaces. They were very through."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Whether you need a permit to build or install a fence depends on several factors, including your location, the fence's height, its placement in your yard, and the materials used. In many cities and highly populated areas, a permit is required, especially for fences taller than 6 feet. Conversely, rural areas may have fewer restrictions. Typically, backyard privacy fences 6 feet or shorter do not require a permit, while front yard fences often have a lower height limit, sometimes as low as 3.5 feet. There can also be exceptions for properties in mixed residential-commercial zones. It's best to check with your local building inspection or zoning department to understand the specific requirements, height restrictions, and location rules for your area. A professional fence installer can help you navigate this process and often secure the necessary permits for you, though this may extend the project timeline.

In most cases, you will need a building permit to put up a vinyl fence, especially if the fence is sitting on or close to your property line. You can ask your local building department or  fence installation company if your fence project will require a permit. If so, you can expect it to cost between $20 and $60. Your fence installer should pull the permit for you. Building without a permit could eventually require you to pay again to remove the fence and reinstall it after getting the job approved.

The recommended height for a garden fence depends on its primary purpose. For pest control, the necessary height varies by animal. To keep out small pests like rabbits, a fence should be at least two to three feet tall. If you live in an area with deer, you will need a much taller fence, at least five feet high, to prevent them from jumping over. If the main goal is privacy, the fence should be at least seven feet tall. For purely decorative fences, the height is a matter of personal preference.

The best type of temporary fencing depends on its intended purpose. For example, if you need it for added security, to ensure the safety of children and animals, or to keep pests out of a garden, the ideal material will differ. For simply warning people away from a construction project, plastic orange fencing may be sufficient. Barricade fencing is a good choice for blocking off small areas. If you need to protect an area from trespassing, theft, or vandalism, more robust security fencing is necessary. Once you understand the primary function, you can select the most durable and cost-effective material for your specific project and yard size.

Wire fences are generally the most inexpensive type of farm fence to install, especially compared to lumber. Barbed wire is one of the cheapest options due to its simple materials, making it a good choice for low budgets and for confining docile animals in large spaces. Other options include hog wire and woven wire fences, which are strong, long-lasting, and relatively easy to repair. While wire fences require less lumber and reduce overall project costs, they are often considered less aesthetically pleasing than traditional wood fences.
