"We aimed to redesign/repurpose the interior space for a small outbuilding on our property and stumbled upon BEAR Architects after a quick google search. Being a new business, they didn't have much in terms of reviews, however, they were very responsive so we went with our gut and gave them a chance. Thankfully our gut feeling steered us in the right direction. Beth and Andrew are incredible to deal with. We found them to be very composed, yet focused and aggressive in moving our project along. They paid close attention to the objectives we communicated. They listened to our ideas and steered us properly when their knowledge and expertise was required. They were efficient and completed our project within the scope of the timeline laid out in their proposal. Lastly, they were respectful of our budget and ensured that we received everything we needed for the amount we had earmarked for architectural work. In fact, we were provided with additional site plans that were not initially within the scope of the project. I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to use BEAR Architects. We will certainly work with them again!"

Since 1991, Sandberg Kessler (formerly Harrington Sandberg) has built a solid reputation for unique design and personal service, creating environments for learning, growing, living, playing, working, relaxing and worshiping. Each client is special and every need unique. In the design process, we begin by listening, setting goals and taking into consideration the expectations of all the participants - those who will use the facility, those who will finance it, and those whose environment will be effected. As a multi-disciplinary team, we approach each project with a vision for design as well as an eye for efficiency. The result is a process that guides and supports the client in decision making along the way. From the design stage, to bidding and construction administration, the designated Sandberg Kessler team stays with each project through completion. Client satisfaction is our measure of success.

Architects questions, answered by experts

Yes, floor joists are essential structural components. They support the weight of floors and everything on them, transferring loads to the foundation and walls. Properly installed joists are necessary for maintaining strength, stability, and structural integrity.

Costs depend on project complexity, materials, labor, permits, and required revisions.

It can take anywhere from a few days to several months to draw up architectural plans, depending on the complexity of your project. Architectural plans are highly detailed documents that take time to complete, and any changes or alterations can significantly extend how long they take.

Universal design costs can be minimal when you add them during construction; however, adding universal design principles to existing homes can sometimes increase renovation costs. For example, a mid-grade bathroom remodel is estimated to cost around $30,000, while a standard universal design remodel can cost closer to $40,000. Adding accessible design components can include widening hallways ($500 to $2,000), curbless showers ($2,000 to $8,000), and widening doors ($400 to $800). Keep in mind that these increased costs can lead to higher resale values because universal homes may appeal to a wider variety of buyers.

Greek Revival and Federal architecture are quite similar in that they focus on symmetry and a blend of utilitarianism and opulence, but they differ in a few key areas. First, Federal architecture tends to include a brick facade, whereas Greek Revival homes more often have stucco siding, much like you’d find in Mediterranean houses. Greek Revival homes also tend to be a bit more ornate, with columns as decor, and more decorative and formal porticos.
