"Got our dryer vent cleaned out. I did not realize that every dryer vent should be cleaned out at least once in a while. Ours was fully plugged and the dryer smelled like something was burning. First I thought I needed an appliance repair company, but they don't clean out the vents. They suggested a plumber, but they don't do this either. I finally found Pure Air and they repaired part of the hose where it was shredded and completely cleaned out the entire system. I cannot recommend them highly enough. If you don't know when the last time you had your dryer vent cleaned, call them ASAP. It could save you from having a fire."

Sonic Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, gable vents can let water in. That being said, this usually only occurs during extreme conditions like heavy rainfall. You can prevent water from entering through gable vents by adding a screen that traps the water before it can enter.

Inspect for debris, clean drains, and regularly check for punctures or cracks to maintain performance.

You should avoid using a pressure washer on any surface or item that could be damaged by the high-pressure spray, as some materials are too delicate to withstand the force.

Key items and surfaces to avoid include:

  • Electrical Components: Never pressure wash electrical systems, as water can cause short-circuits and create a safety hazard. This includes utility meters, breaker boxes, electrical outlets, generators, and HVAC or air conditioner units.

  • Delicate and Fragile Materials: Fragile items can crack, shatter, or be stripped by the pressure. Avoid pressure washing windows, glass, light fixtures, shingled roofs (especially asphalt), and stucco.

  • Painted, Stained, or Sealed Surfaces: Unless your goal is to strip the finish, do not pressure wash painted surfaces, stained wood (like decks), or anything with a protective seal that could be stripped away. Be especially cautious with older surfaces that may contain lead paint.

  • Soft Woods and Certain Decking: Delicate surfaces like softwood, composite decking, and antique or wooden patio furniture can be etched or damaged. If you must wash wood, use a lower-powered pressure washer with a wide-angle nozzle to prevent damage.

  • Living Things: Never use a pressure washer on people, pets, or plants. The force can cause serious injury and will destroy landscaping.

Long-handled telescopic brushes are the best way to clean the outside of a house without a pressure washer. There are even special attachments for cleaning the outside of windows. Use a gentle cleaning solution for both the roof and siding to avoid harming the finishes. Be sure to rinse the area thoroughly with a garden hose after scrubbing.

To prep for metal roof painting, have a roof inspection conducted to determine the condition. Complete any repairs required before you paint. Remove the old paint on your metal roof, if any, remove rust and mold with a wire brush, and power wash the surface. Once the roof is clean and dry, start with a primer get painting.
