"Before we decided to hire Anton's team from European Craftsman and Remodeling to power wash the exterior of our log home and put two new coats of stain on it, we did a good deal of shopping around. Our past experience had taught us that we needed to be extra careful with the professionalism of the painter we wanted to hire. My husband and I received a few estimates and we didn't go for the lowest bid. Instead, we were struck by Anton's professional knowledge and sensed that he was probably the guy we needed. And we were right. Anton was punctual, responsible, and observed the terms of our contract. He made sure that the stain be applied evenly across the log by using a special equipment to spray the surface and the result has been fantastic. Although the Sikkens ProLuxe Cetol stain cost us much more than the ordinary stain, we love the new look of our home and admire the craftsmanship of Anton's team. We will hire them again."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Most landscape timbers are 8 feet long, but some are also available in 10-foot and 12-foot lengths. Choose the length that will allow you to install landscape timbers using the least amount of cutting to fit. Shorter timbers will allow you to more easily create angles and shorter plant bed sides.

Building involves setting foundation posts, framing with durable wood, adding roofing support, and protecting from elements with water-resistant finishes.

Balusters provide vertical support to make sure your stair railing and/or deck is as sturdy and safe as possible. These spindles help hold up the railing so people walking up or down stairs have something strong to hold onto. They can also act as a unique design element if they’re custom-made to suit a specific style or size requirement.

No, you do not usually tip a carpenter for their work. However, if you’ve been very happy with the level of service and quality of work, a 10% to 20% tip would likely be accepted with thanks. If you’re not sure, it can help to discuss the carpenter’s policy or preference for tipping before beginning the project.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface materials can be cut with standard woodworking tools, such as a circular saw or a jigsaw. However, it is crucial to use the correct type of blade to avoid damaging the material.

For a circular saw, a tungsten carbide-tipped blade is required; a triple chip grind blade is highly recommended. For a jigsaw, you should use a fine-tooth down-cutting blade. Do not use blades designed for cutting wood, as they can cause microfractures that weaken the edges of the countertop. A diamond blade is also unnecessary, as those are designed for harder materials like natural stone, which Corian is not.

After cutting, the edge will be rough. It is essential to sand and smooth the cut edge to prevent microfractures, which can eventually compromise the integrity of the countertop.
