"Miguel and his team did an outstanding job restaining our deck and building a raised planter bed into the deck for growing vegetables. Both look amazing and his prices were very reasonable. He is also a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a master carpenter."

"Anton was easy to work with. Sent email on a Sunday. He called in five minutes and came that afternoon to look at the job. Replaced baseboard in four bedrooms and repaired a hole in the ceiling. All work was completed in two days starting that Monday. The carpenter that did the baseboards (I think his name is John) was great, neat and did a wonderful job. I will definately call Anton again. "Kevin helped us turn a dream into reality: After hiring him to build a deck for us, we decided to hire him again to take on a large scale remodel/new build. We had an old 2 story barn attached to our house which was completely unfinished, and used as storage when we moved in. Kevin helped us to convert that space into a brand new 1300 square foot apartment with new HVAC (geothermal!), brand new kitchen w/ custom cabinets, 1 full and 1 half bath, laundry, vaulted ceilings, reclaimed lumber for all wood floors, brand new windows, doors, all of it. My in-laws are now happily retired and living with us, loving their brand new home. His crew was amazing. They worked hard on this project and came in very close to their original estimate, despite the fact that he quoted a price pre-Covid, and the cost of materials went through the roof during the project. He worked closely with his sub-contractors (plumber, electrician, HVAC) to ensure they were delivering a quality product that fit within our budget. He was in regular communication with our architect throughout the project as well. He even dealt with our annoying building inspector long after we got the C of O, because Kevin understands the value of customer service. Kevin is the best. Hire this man!"

"Great people and a great company. Explained step by step the process they were going to take to build a pool deck. Each step was inspected and passed on the first attempt. All the workers were professional and courteous. I always like to see the owner, Joe, out there working on the job and not handing off the work to someone else. They went above and beyond what they needed to do by helping me attach a pool ladder to my deck, after hours and on a hot day. Unfortunately, they told my wife that they also remodel kitchens. Now, that's all she talks about. I would absolutely use this company again."

"It is an absolute pleasure to work with them. We recently painted the new building of our project and all the doors of the building. Swifthand Painting Company sent their team on time and quickly inspected the building and did a great job. We are glad to have found them! We will use Swifthand Painting again in the future."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Carpenters are trained to take on a wide range of home projects. You can hire a carpenter to do framing, roofing, build custom furniture, and make significant upgrades to your home. General carpenters are usually able to handle most jobs. However, you may also choose to hire a carpenter who specializes in a specific type of carpentry.

For a professional carpenter, installing a window seat can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on some aspects of the project. Aside from building the seat itself, if they have to remove any cabinets, shelves, or baseboards, that will add time to the project.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.

While it is possible to build a wooden carport yourself, especially if you are skilled in carpentry, professional construction is recommended. Professionals ensure structural integrity, proper anchoring, correct alignment, and the use of quality materials for a stable and durable result.
