"I'm an out of town landlord and my tenants were out of hot water because the water heater was not working. I called Kulk's Plumbing and Heating in the evening after business hours and the technician was there bright and early the next morning. The problem was fixed, the price was very fair. The entire experience (scheduling, payment, customer service) was effortless. Will definitely use your service again for all my plumbing and heating needs. Thanks Kulk's Plumbing and Heating."

"Dave saved us money and got the job done. Another company diagnosed the problem incorrectly and recommended changing a more expensive part that wouldn't have solved the problem. Dave did his own thorough assessment, found the real issue and fixed it right away. Couldn't be more grateful for heat and hot water. Thank you Dave."

"There aren’t enough superlatives to express how pleased I am with Scott’s work. Believe me I know how frustrating hiring any service person is. Scott was fantastic. He said he would be here at 9am and miracles of miracles he was! He said the job would take 2-3 hours and he had it done in 2.5. I had him remove and install a bathroom vanity with stone countertop, faucets and large medicine cabinet. It came out beautifully. AND he hauled away all the old stuff and the packaging from all the new stuff. It was like he was never here. As if the bathroom gods just granted me a perfect bathroom. Do yourself a favor Hire this company. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you Scott."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

No, you’ll need to drain the tank before changing a water heater element, as the water heater element sticks through the side of the tank and uses a gasket to prevent water from pouring out. However, you don’t always need to drain it completely. If you’re only replacing the upper heating element, you can drain the tank until the water line is below the element. If you’re replacing the lower element, you’ll need to drain the whole thing.

Tankless water heaters heat water as it passes through the unit instead of storing heated water in the tank. Their ability to produce hot water on an as-needed basis makes them more efficient. However, they are generally more expensive than traditional units. Is a tankless water heater worth it? Most homeowners will save money with a tankless unit in the long run by using less energy.

Homeowners insurance may cover the repair or replacement of a water heater if it's damaged by a covered peril, such as a fire or a burst pipe. However, policies typically do not cover repairs or replacement needed due to normal wear and tear, old age, or lack of maintenance. For these issues, a home warranty or a manufacturer's warranty may provide coverage. While the policy might not pay to fix or replace the malfunctioning appliance itself, it often covers the cost of water damage restoration caused by the faulty water heater. Always check with your insurance provider to understand the specifics of your policy.

Newer models are packed with newer technologies that decrease energy consumption and increase output, giving you more bang for your buck in more bills than one.

If you’re trying to decide whether you want to repair or replace your new heater, consider factors like your utility bills, repair costs, and even your carbon footprint to help you decide whether it makes sense to buy a new one instead.

A tankless water heater can last up to 20 years, which is nearly double the lifespan of a conventional tank heater. However, their longevity is highly dependent on several factors. With proper installation and regular maintenance, such as descaling to prevent mineral buildup from hard water, you can expect a lifespan of 15 to 20 years. Without proper care, a tankless unit may begin to fail in as little as 12 years. Other factors that affect its lifespan include household usage and the quality of the local water supply. While they have a higher upfront cost, their energy savings, smaller size, and longer life make them a worthwhile investment for many homeowners.
