"Quality of work was excellent. Matched trim for a 1941 house. The trim is beautiful and installed perfectly. He redid a wall that was done incorrectly by another contractor. The wall is smooth, straight and plumb. Also repaired ceilings in both the kitchen and the living room. Both were done so well you would not know there had been a problem. My husband and I both recommend him. He came on time, gave us an estimate, completed the work in a timely manner and was very pleasant and easy to work with. Will hire him again any time we need work done."

"I had drywall installed for about 4 rooms that needed to be completed after a terrible experience with another contractor who abandoned the job. I reached our to Overstate who came out to do the inspection quickly. They gave me a competitive quote and was very knowledgable during the consultation we had. They just completed the job and now my home looks refreshing. Their office was so supportive and kind during this process and all their workers very professional. Thanks to your team for the amazing job!"

"This was a very involved plaster repair and remediation job, in a very old house. Grady is the only person (or company) who was willing to take on the job and drive all the way from Pennsylvania to our home in Northern Virginia. There are very few people who do this kind of work anymore (we really searched) and he is an expert in his field. We needed to work around his schedule, because he is in demand in the tri-state area, so it took awhile to schedule the work to begin... but it was worth it."

"Hugh's three workers were fantastic. They completed the work on the deck replacement in a day-and-a-half. The work was done cleanly with no damage to the landscaping that is so close to the project. Clean up when the project was completed is superior to any other we had done in the past. The refurbished storm door looks brand new and is a welcoming addition to the project. Hugh contacted us the same day as our request and showed up for the initial estimate on time. I cannot emphasize more what a pleasant experience it was having Hugh and his workers take care of our project. HNI is being highly recommended by us, and we will be calling him for additional projects in the future. The quality of the work done far exceeds the cost. Thank You. Hugh"

"If you are looking for quality work, courtesy, on time and a good fair price then Elte Taping is the best choice. From the estimate to the completion of the job Leon could not have been more pleasant, helpful and professional. We are so thankful to have found him on Homeadvisor. Leon is beyond accommodating and his suggestions to best do the job, at no extra cost to our agreed quote, were right on target. Because of his efforts our previously unfinished basement is a beautiful family/play room. Do it right, call Leon at Elite Taping."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

It is possible to apply plaster on the interior or exterior of your home, but we don’t recommend it. Plaster is easy to apply in theory, but in reality, it can be a challenging material to work with, and it’s difficult to get the finished product to look clean, even, and smooth. Many DIYers end up calling in a professional afterward to touch up the area or even redo it entirely because of mistakes they made in the process. Hiring a plaster pro will cost more, but it’s usually the best option to achieve high-quality results.

Professionals diagnose underlying causes, such as structural shifts or moisture problems, and apply appropriate solutions like reinforcement, patching, or sealing. These measures restore wall integrity and prevent recurrence, ensuring long-term stability.

Yes, you can install drywall over plaster, but there are important factors to consider. While it can create a smooth, flat surface, it is often not the best approach. Installing drywall over plaster will increase the wall's thickness, which can cause issues with existing window and door frames that may no longer fit. You might also need to adjust power outlets to keep them accessible. A better, though more expensive, option is to remove the old plaster and lath entirely before installing new drywall. Drywalling directly over plaster seals in the old material, and if any problems arise later, you will need to remove both layers down to the structural beams for repairs. Given the potential complications, this job is best handled by professionals.

If the holes in the plaster are small, you can fill them with layers of patching plaster until they’re filled. After it dries, you can sand the plaster and paint over it. If the hole is much larger, consider using bonding plaster first and then a layer of patching plaster, completing the process with sanding and a layer of paint.

Yes, you can speed up the time it takes for plaster to dry, but it's important to do so carefully to avoid issues like cracking or crumbling. Proper ventilation is key; open a window or use a fan to circulate air in the room. Heat can also accelerate drying, but be cautious, as too much heat can cause the plaster to dry too quickly and crack. Check the plaster's packaging for the recommended drying temperature and set the room's thermostat accordingly. While managing humidity is important, avoid using a dehumidifier, which can remove moisture too aggressively and result in crumbly plaster.
