"We had several contractors give us a bid for our drip irrigation system. All contractors were bidding on the exact same area to have drip irrigation installed and all contractors were using the same controller. The controller is wifi capable and has 3 zones, and a rain sensor. The price we received from Juan was by far the best price. Price was one consideration in determining who we were going to choose to perform the work. We also wanted to work with a contractor that would listen to our concerns and design a system to accommodate our flower beds and shrubbery. Juan met all those requirements far above our expectations. The work we had done took approximately two days for Juan and his employees to complete from start to finish. They were quick and efficient. When they were done our valve box was installed properly along with the rain sensor and all the plumbing work involved was done to code. We were somewhat concerned that the trenching required would leave our lawn in a state of disarray, when Juan was done you could barely tell that any work had been performed. Juan went over and above going over the drip irrigation layout with my wife and making changes if needed. When the time came to test and install the system onto my wife phone, Juan took the the time to go over every aspect of the system and how to work it from the main controller as well as her phone. I not only recommend that you contact Juan for all of your irrigation needs, I will gladly allow him to showcase our installation and happily provide referrals for him and his company. THEY ARE THE BEST. If you are considering an irrigation system you cannot go wrong by hiring Affordable Irrigation they do quality work at a truly affordable price ."

"Everything was absolutely great. Alex and his crew at Fanny Landscaping are highly skilled professionals who once again did a superb job. This was the third large project they have done for us and we're already talking with them about the next ones. I would recommend them most enthusiastically for any jobs, large or small. Alex's estimate was right on the mark and, most importantly, the quality of their work was extremely high. We're looking forward to working with them again."

"We couldn’t have been more pleased with the tree removal work that was done. Four trees in total, each with their own unique challenges. Molina's Landscaping & Tree Service handled each one with precision and did an incredible job. They were very careful to avoid impacting our newly paved driveway – and they dropped one tree between an open gate which was pure perfection. We look forward to working with them again as other needs immerge."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

When stored under ideal conditions, grass seed lasts anywhere from 10 to 18 months from the testing date without any real decrease in the germination rate. You can still use the seeds after this timeframe, but the germination rates drop 10% to 20% each year.

If you’re just embarking on an overseeding project, using seeds that have been in storage for a few years isn’t too big of a deal. However, if you’re planning on redoing your entire landscape, your best bet for a healthy, luscious lawn is to use new seeds.

Choosing between sod and seed depends on your budget, timeline, and maintenance preferences.

Sod:

  • Pros: Provides an instant, lush lawn and immediate curb appeal. It's more resistant to weeds and erosion, can be installed any time during the growing season, and offers a consistent appearance.

  • Cons: Has a higher upfront cost, typically $0.90 to $1.80 more per square foot than seed. It offers fewer grass varieties and must be installed immediately upon delivery.

Seed:

  • Pros: Less expensive upfront, making it a budget-friendly option. It offers a wider variety of grass types and is easier for a DIY installation.

  • Cons: Takes much longer to establish, potentially up to two years for a full lawn. It requires more maintenance, including regular weed control, and is more difficult to cultivate.

Ultimately, if you want a beautiful lawn quickly and have a larger budget, sod is an excellent choice. If you are patient, want to save money, and prefer a wider selection of grass types, seeding may be the better option.

Wait at least three weeks after overseeding ryegrass before breaking out the lawn mower. Mowing sooner will tear up much of the delicate, newly seeded ryegrass as it won't have established strong roots to anchor it yet.

Power seeding and aeration are both excellent ways to improve lawn health, but they serve different functions. Aeration focuses on improving soil health by creating channels that allow more water, oxygen, and carbon dioxide to reach the roots. In contrast, power seeding is a method of planting grass seeds, often by creating narrow trenches in the soil. One service isn't better than the other; they are complementary. It is beneficial to aerate your lawn before power seeding, as this makes the seeding more effective by helping the germinating seeds access the resources they need. It's a good practice to aerate your lawn once or twice a year, regardless of whether you plan to power seed.

Depending on the species, most fescue grasses thrive in USDA hardiness zones 3 through 8, though some varieties can thrive as far as zone 10. While it’s a cool-season grass, it has the unique ability to adapt and thrive in many different types of climates. For this reason, you'll mostly find fescue grasses throughout the transitional temperature zones of the country.
