"Andy and his crew are terrific! We hired them to remove a popcorn ceiling and replace it with a skim coat and plaster. Two hallways and living room. They did a wonderful job. And were very professional and cleaned up after themselves. It was a lot of dust! Thank you Andy and Mikey."

"Oz’s people were professional, pleasant, very accommodating and cleaned up before leaving each day. We ran into more work when the bathroom shower and tub area wall was rotted away due to years of water damage. They replaced the studs and put up a new wall. Our bathroom is beautiful and best of all they finished earlier then stated."

"All work was well-orchestrated so that no time was wasted and inconvenience to me was minimized. Demolition crew showed up promptly at appointed time to remove old bathroom, followed by plumbers to lay groundwork for new while walls were open. Then carpentry/tile craftsmen (and I use this word deliberately, to recognize their skill, workmanship, and pride in quality) came and showed up at appointed time every day, doing all work without any imperfection that I can see. Where I had small questions or requests, these were addressed and accommodated without resistance or quibbles. Price held as promised, with no nickeling (there was a small add-on that I agreed with, to replace a rotted subfloor sheet that was discovered during the work). At the end of the job, the plumbers came back to hook up all the new fixtures. On both plumber visits, time that the house water had to be shut off was minimized -- a total, for both visits combined, of perhaps 3 hours. We selected the tile (they had a very good selection) and ended up accepting their suggestions for the quartz countertop color and the plumbing fixtures, cabinets, and faucets. All of their suggestions about color and fixtures were very good, and the end result is a bathroom that looks very nice and very well coordinated. The craftsmen performing the work had occasional useful suggestions about slight relocations of switches and other electrical things, which I accepted. All work was done with attention to quality and with no shortcuts. At no time did any dust or debris find its way elsewhere in the house, and at the end of the work everything was completely clean."

Small jobs welcome

"I was very pleased and satisfied with the work that Loja Renovation provided. They replaced and installed a medicine cabinet by removing old tiles and replaced with new tiles to accommodate the new one. Patched a wall where a bathroom cabinet was removed. And replaced a tub spout with a new one. I would hire the again and recommend them to others."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Different bathtub materials have various advantages and disadvantages. Cast iron and copper are considered the most durable materials because they are dense and resistant to damage from scratches or dents. However, cast-iron tubs are heavy, expensive, and may not be suitable for upper floors. Copper offers unique benefits but requires regular chemical treatment to prevent a patina from forming, making cast iron a less maintenance-intensive option. Porcelain is a good second choice for durability. For those on a budget, acrylic is a popular option, though it is less durable.

The plumbing industry has standardized the sizes for bathtub drains. They are 1 1/2 inches wide to fit all standard bathtubs from 14 to 26 inches deep. The standard sizing is to ensure that the drain fits into the P trap, a special part of your piping that prevents sewer water from bubbling up into your home (yuck).

A drop-in tub is just one of the types of bathtubs available. Depending on your needs and the space available, you can consider an alcove tub for quick installation, a whirlpool tub for added relaxation, a freestanding tub for a statement piece, or a corner tub to take advantage of the space in a larger bathroom.

The first thing to consider when converting a tub into a shower is whether you’d like to simply change out the tub or undertake a complete bathroom remodel. If you’re unsure, reviewing bathroom remodeling ideas can help you decide whether you’re satisfied with your space or could use a change. From there, decide if you’ll handle the job yourself or hire a pro, and then set a budget.

The order of your bathroom renovation should prevent damage to the completed work. Start with demolition and removing the old fixtures. Then, address structural repairs or water damage, if needed. Next, tackle the rough-in phase for plumbing and electrical work, install waterproofing, and work on wall treatments like tile or paint. Install your shower or bathtub, toilet, vanity, and sink. Flooring goes in after major fixtures but before the toilet. Lastly, install new lighting fixtures, mirrors, and other finishing touches as desired.
