"Olvin is by far the best contractor we've ever worked with. Smart, diligent, communicates well, works fast, cleans up afterwards, reasonably priced, and so much more. He did a full reno of the kitchen of my dad's Bayside coop, and partial reno of two bathrooms. He also did repair work in my Jamaica Estates home, identifying a roof leak and repairing the leak and ceiling. Call Olvin, and tell him Gary sent you. You will not be disappointed. My only fear is that next time I need him, he'll be too busy helping you. LOL."

"The Ceramic Man did an amazing job repairing and restoring damaged shower tile in my upstairs bathroom. The tile in the shower had come loose causing water to gather and cause damage to the wall behind. The Ceramic Man did the necessary repairs and restored the shower to its original state. When the work was completed, the shower, which is quite old, looked brand new. My Pro was honest, knowledgeable, hardworking and provided feedback on the progress of the project each step of the way. I would highly recommend The Ceramic Guy for any tile project big or small and look forward to working with him in the future for any tile project I mught have!"

"He was comunicative and punctual. He resealed my undermount stainless sink that partially came detached. he also sanded down a mismatch in height of two mating halves of my granite counter. He did an excellent job and I would call him again if I needed repairs to be done in my kitchen."

"Hector came and gave a written estimate the same day I hired him to repair 5 cracked kitchen tiles and to regrout the kitchen and laundry room. Brian showed up on time was extremely professional walked me through his entire process. He gave choices of grout color and completed the entire job in 6 hours. Our floor looked Brand New. Would use again and highly recommend. Best decision ever! Only wish is we had done it sooner. Thank you Brian"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t technically need a cement backer board for a wall tiling project, but not using it risks disastrous moisture damage. Cement is naturally water-resistant, whereas drywall soaks it in, which can lead to warping or mold growth. Always use a backer board treated with a waterproof membrane for bathrooms and other chronically damp areas to ensure complete tile shower waterproofing.

On average, tiling a shower costs between $1,800 and $5,000, with most people paying around $2,700. The price of this project depends on multiple factors, including the kind of tile you choose, the size of your shower, and labor rates in your area. If you decide to tile your own shower (instead of hiring a professional), it’ll likely cost $800 to $1,400.

Popular options include ceramic, porcelain, stone, and glass tiles, chosen based on the area (bathroom, kitchen) and desired aesthetic.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop material. It typically costs between $50 to $70 per square foot.

Compared to quartz, porcelain is slightly more affordable, as quartz generally ranges from $50 to $200 per square foot. However, lower-quality, builder's grade quartz can be similar in price to porcelain.

Compared to granite, the price can be similar, depending on the quality of the stone. While granite slabs can range from $50 to $200 per square foot, you can find lower-end granite in the same price range as porcelain. High-end granites will cost significantly more.

Porcelain is generally more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic, but less expensive than high-end slate, concrete, and marble. A key benefit is that porcelain does not require sealing, which reduces long-term maintenance costs.
