Customers say: Quality work

"All the leads provided were very good and it would be hard to chose between the 3 estimates. They did nothing wrong or unfair they were all professional and courteous.. I went with a mason who previously did work for me . When I contacted you for estimate he was unavailable but he did put on a additional crew and was able to do the job. Thanks for your help."

"Sal and his crew were very professional and I would hire them again for the next job. Sal was very reasonable with price and exceeded my expectations!! He was only contractor that offered to use the old bricks from house to fix and repoint chimney. My wife and I could not be happier. His crew was on time everyday!!"

"Starkie Brothers did an outstanding job. They removed old, overgrown shrubs quickly & quietly. Then, they prepped & poured concrete & laid pavers in a completely redesigned walkway & driveway. Finally, they planted all new shrubs. The workers were neat, respectful & professional. All of this was done in 4 1/2 days of HOT Summer weather. We can’t recommend them enough. We are thrilled!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

It’s best to weigh the pros and cons of each material and decide on your priorities for your driveway. Gravel won’t be an appropriate choice if your driveway experiences heavy traffic. You’ll find that you need to level and top it off regularly, which could make the material a much more expensive option.

At a depth of two inches, a ton of asphalt covers around 80 to 100 square feet. However, the thicker the asphalt, the less surface area it will cover. That’s why measuring correctly is essential when estimating asphalt needs and costs to ensure you get enough material to cover your entire driveway, patio, or other asphalt surface.

A driveway approach is the part of a driveway where the public road meets the private driveway. This section contains several key elements, including the driveway apron, the curb cut, and the end slope. Depending on the slope of the driveway, this area may also contain the trench drain.

The three most common types of asphalt are hot asphalt, MC cold mix, and UPM asphalt. Hot asphalt is used most often for paving and patching roadways while it’s hot and workable. MC cold mix asphalt cures more slowly than hot asphalt, but it can be used for temporary patches and repairs in low-traffic areas. UPM is also used cold, but it can be used as a longer-term fix, usable in almost any conditions at almost any temperature.

Building a road on a slope requires careful planning and will normally require a drainage system underneath to prevent flooding and damage to the road over time. Your professional may lengthen your road to create switchbacks if the slope directly to your home is too steep, as there are regulations for maximum road slope. The drainage system will help prevent runoff from the higher side of the slope from damaging the asphalt or concrete. Keep in mind that building a road on a slope isn’t a good DIY project, as a lot can go wrong.
