"We hired Parlor City to do a re-do of our main living area. It included redoing all the drywall, painting, applying shiplap on a feature wall and constructing 2 large beams for the ceiling. We're very happy with the finished product, especially with the wooden beams. All of the workers were attentive to details and to our wishes, especially the carpenter, Chris, who is a fine craftsman. The only issue we had was that due to some scheduling problems, the project went on a little longer than expected. We would definitely hire Parlor City for any jobs in the future!"

"Paul and his crew painted a side and attic dormer of my three-story house. He was incredibly responsive when I requested a quote and performed the work exactly on the schedule he set out. The crew was careful to do the job professionally and cleaned up after they were done. I have hired painters before and had really bad experiences (delays, over-charges, sloppy work). Some textures are easier than others to DIY, but the short answer is yes, you can absolutely texture walls yourself. You’ll need certain materials, like a trowel or paint sprayer, but the most important things you’ll need are patience and time. DIYing wall texture can save money and be a fun, messy project, but homeowners need to know that adding texture to a wall isn’t a quick project. 

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

There are some instances when you can use extra drywall in your garden. Ideally, unused scraps of new drywall are best for amending soil without the concern of additional chemicals or mold. However, drywall with paint, mold, or potential asbestos requires specialized disposal by a professional and should be kept out of your garden.

You’ll get better results if you soundproof the whole wall. A hole through which light can pass can also let sound waves in. Acoustical or silicone sealant applied to holes and cracks can block enough sound to make a difference. However, the more layers absorb vibrations and slow or stop sound waves, the less noise you’ll have. 

You should wait at least 24 hours for drywall mud to dry before sanding or applying another coat. However, the exact drying time depends on several factors, including the thickness of the application, room temperature, humidity, and the type of compound used. Thicker layers, or projects in high humidity, may require 48 hours or more. Lightweight compounds tend to dry faster than heavier, all-purpose ones. You'll know the mud is ready when it feels completely dry and firm to the touch and has changed to a consistent light color. Sanding too early can cause smudging or gouges, so patience is essential for a smooth finish.
