"Needed replacement of toilet wax seal. Service tech and assistant were super-nice, professional and clean. Said it would take 2 to 2.5h, but took about 45mins and the charge was $550 + fuel surcharge (if flange was not damaged). I thought this was quite high but based on Webber's ratings I figured it had to be right. Later found out that a experienced plumber would only charge around $200. Too bad, will not use T Webber again."

"We replaced the original roof on our house. I expressed my concerns about re-installation of the lightening rods to my roofer. We have had at least three direct hits since they were originally installed in 2013. My roofer called William who was very helpful. William offered to come out an make sure everything was 100% after re-installation. He came the day after I called and I'm glad he did. While the reinstall was the best he had seen (his words) there were issues after 5 year and 3 strikes that needed addressed. He fixed those and now I have a new roof and I am certain the lightening rods will work as intended. Highly recommend this company."

Residential, commercial, industrial electrical repair and installation company. All jobs big and small performed by licensed and insured electricians. Installation of ductless mini-split air conditioners and heat pumps.

"Matt was the subcontractor for the electrical part of a complete house rewiring. A lot went wrong with the general contractor but I had enough direct dealing with Matt to know that his and his team's work was incomplete, sloppy, not to code, dishonest, did damage to my house that they didn't accept responsibility for, and in at least one case a fire and safety hazard. Both Matt and the GC presented the project to me as fully done with just a two item punch list. But the actual list of missing items from the contract were: they hadn't pulled a permit, hadn't worked to code, hadn't wired a new dishwasher to code, hadn't used ARC Fault breakers as required by both contract and code, simple things like socket covers weren't installed or were barely screwed in, electrical trash was everywhere, all the lights had been removed but not a single one was reset. They'd left screws all over my hardwood floors and that caused a lot of damage and they'd destroyed a bunch of the lights that they'd taken down. As I've worked with my new electrician to finish, we've found that a lot of the wiring wasn't replaced. And worse, we found one light where Matt's crew had repurposed a ground wire to run live electricity over. That's a safety hazard. I had so many bad direct experiences where they'd tell me one thing and then it would obviously not be true. Matt told me they'd cleaned up their work but then when I checked the specific area he was working on it was littered with trash (he labeled the electrical box with a label maker and left the clippings all over the floor). Or another time when his crew was walking out of the house they told me they'd finished everything but when I walked in three different newly installed smoke alarms were going off. How can you not notice that? Mainly though the big problem was not finishing and not working to code. This whole project was paid for by my insurance and so it obviously puts me in a bad position to feel like we are defrauding them. Either the GC or Matt or both were very obviously overcharging my insurance for work they weren't going to do."

The modern suburban and small town home of today has become an ideal lightning target. The home owner would do well to recognize lightning for the destructive force that it is and protect against this major life and fire hazard. Donohue's Lightning Rods is based in Missouri, near the factory where most of the residential and commercial lightning rod supplies are manufactured. Jim travels regularly to Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and New York. Call today to find out when Jim will be in your area. For installations outside Missouri, Kansas, or Texas, Jim waits until there are a few customers lined up, thus being able to provide the same quality services at affordable prices. **WE DO NOT DO ELECTRICAL SERVICES.** (ONLY LIGHTNING RODS)

"The job was beautifully and professionally done. I have a zero scape yard and the gentleman was concerned about disturbing the gravel when putting the rod into the ground. WOW!!!!"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.

Yes, installing a generator usually increases your property value because buyers are getting the added peace of mind knowing they’ll be able to maintain power through blackouts. In most cases, you should see close to a 100% return on investment (ROI). Keep in mind that home generators usually need a permanent foundation, and installing a concrete slab will likely raise your property taxes slightly.

Whole-house generators need to be installed on level ground several feet away from walls and other objects. Because they tap into the electrical system directly, they usually need to be close to your home electrical panel for a transfer switch installation. It also helps with installation if they are near to a gas line or propane tank installation.

When installed and used correctly, generators are safe to use. The most critical generator safety tips to keep in mind are:

  • Never use a portable generator inside an enclosed space, as the carbon monoxide exhaust it creates is lethal.

  • Never attempt to connect your generator to your home’s electrical panel independently; hire a professional for this dangerous job.

  • Never overload your generator by connecting more appliances than for which it’s rated; you can damage your generator and appliances or even cause a fire.

You can determine what size generator you need for a transfer switch by matching the switch to the largest outlet on your generator. Larger generators can power up to 10 circuits, while most 5,000-watt generators can provide power to six circuits. So, if your generator’s largest outlet is 30 amps, you’ll need a 30-amp transfer switch.
