"Artie and Greg came to our house multiple times for wiring related to a kitchen renovation. They wired our new kitchen island for an outlet and microwave. They also installed new high-hats and pendants in the kitchen. They were professional, competent, and efficient. They did great work and I would highly recommend them."

"This was my first project of this sort so I didn’t know what I didn’t know. Amped Up took their time to explain what needed to be done and my options for getting it done. I had several estimates but based on the information I received and transparency about options and cost associated with those options, Amped Up was the way to go. Very pleased with the work. Quick, efficient, and clean. I will definitely hire again."

"Installing a PV system is a minefield of regulations and paperwork. Ed and Gerry at TRES have experience navigating this process and were able to take care of all the paperwork. While we had some bumps in the road during the installation, TRES was always willing to do what was necessary to make things right. I'd definitely recommend TRES if you are looking for a PV system."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

It is safe to run a generator continuously, but you must follow safety protocols to ensure personal and home safety. Read the manufacturer’s instructions for specific recommendations, but the general recommendation is to turn generators off overnight or when you’re away from the house. Overworked generators can pose a fire hazard and if your generator is not in a well-ventilated area, running it continuously could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Sizing a generator is a careful process that requires calculating the electrical load of your entire house. You have to take into account every device you want to use and their wattage requirements, plus the wattage needed to start them, and look for a generator that can safely run all that at around 80% capacity.

In more practical terms, a small home can run on a 10,000-watt generator (and if you only want to power a few key appliances, much less than that). A mid-sized home may need something between 15,000 and 22,000 watts. Larger homes require 25,000 watts or more.

These advanced generators use a key fob or a smartphone app to remotely start, which is ideal for getting power back on immediately without venturing outside. This feature is more common on whole home generators, but you may be able to find it on large portable generators, too.

If you’re wondering if you can use your electric vehicle as a backup battery, it depends on whether your EV is compatible with bidirectional charging. This technology allows energy to flow both ways, enabling vehicle-to-home (V2H) backup power, vehicle-to-load (V2L) for appliances and camping, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) to support the power grid. Compatible EVs convert stored DC energy into usable AC power, helping reduce energy costs and enhance grid stability while providing emergency backup power.

Natural gas and electricity rates vary significantly based on location, and pricing can change over time, too. It’s possible that in locations where natural gas is particularly inexpensive, it will cost less than grid-based electricity will. However, you should also factor in the generator’s initial costs and maintenance needs, as well as its noise level and if it can comfortably power all your home appliances.
