"After meeting several companies and based on reviews we awarded the project to Remodeling Concepts. The construction began within the discussed time frame and moved quickly. The workers protected floors and cleaned daily. We were updated for the most part daily. Derek personally was on site often often. The Project went a bit longer than discussed however we are extremely pleased with the finished project. Would hire again and recommend."

"Met me a week before, gave me an estimate 3 days later.  Was several hundred less than other estimates.  He was the only one that explained the process along with the estimate showing different materials.  He also explained the different materials and how long they would last along with treatment.  Showed up every morning it wasn't raining and told me hours and times he would be there.  Had a nice young man that helped who was also very courteous and pleasant.  Deck was completed a week before deadline and I absolutely love it.  Will hire for any other jobs I need without question."

"Emil did a fantastic job on my decks and house foundation. He's one of the hardest workers I have ever came across... he worked in 90+ degree heat without shade for days without a single complaint. When I purchased my home a few years ago, the previous owner painted my two decks and the home's foundation a country blue color. The rear deck's paint started to fade and peel after 2 years, so in my 4th year I decided to have someone strip the decks of all of the blue paint and stain the surfaces with semi-transparent stain. At the same time, I needed the foundation's blue color to also be removed, so I went with a brown paint for the foundation and front-facing boards on the decks that went well with the walnut-colored stain and the beige-colored vinyl siding. First, Emil powerwashed the decks and the vinyl railings so everything was clean and free of mildew. He sanded both decks, including in between the boards as much as possible where the blue paint was visible. This was grueling work but Emil treated the job like it was his own house. Once all of the blue paint was gone, he stained the deck surfaces and painted all of the remaining wood and foundation. It looks so much better! My neighbors have all complimented the work, too. I would definitely recommend Emil to anyone looking for a great painter."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s definitely possible to build a pergola on an existing deck. All you need to do is attach the pergola support beams to the deck’s joists and build up from there. Beware that mistakes can damage your deck, so if you’re at all unsure of the process, play it safe and hire a pro for your custom build.

Whether you need a permit depends on the deck design and local regulations. Most areas mandate a building permit if the deck is over a specific height or if it's attached to a pre-existing structure. Shorter, freestanding decks may not require a permit, but you should check with local zoning ordinances and your homeowners association for specifics.

Yes, Ipe is more expensive than Trex decking—both in terms of materials and installation (plus, Ipe trees are endangered). On average, Ipe decking costs $10 to $25 per square foot, while Trex decking costs $5 to $12 per square foot. Because Ipe is harder to work with, the price of installation is higher, too. For Ipe decking, you’ll pay between $20 and $45 per square foot for labor. However, with Trex decking, the labor costs range from $8 to $22 per square foot.

Putting lattice under a deck will create a polished look that allows for air ventilation. You can also store items underneath as the lattice provides privacy and protection from the weather. You can also put lattice under a porch to create a polished look in the front of your house.

Yes, adding a composite deck, such as one made from Trex, can significantly increase your home's value. It is a valuable home renovation for recouping costs, with some estimates for return on investment (ROI) ranging between 60% and 70%. More recently, Remodeling's 2024 Cost vs. Value Report suggests a deck addition has an ROI of 82.9%, with an average resale value of nearly $14,600. A new deck makes your yard more functional, enhances the landscape's aesthetic, and can entice prospective buyers. The investment may have a higher return if the deck adds usable square footage to the property.
