Vinegar cannot tell the difference between weeds and desired grass types; it kills everything it touches. Only use a vinegar or vinegar-based solution if you are relatively confident that you can navigate around the plants and grasses you want to keep. Also, don’t spray vinegar on a windy day, or it will blow onto other plants.

Buffalo grass does not turn green as early in the spring as some other grasses. If you have a heavily shaded yard, buffalo grass may not receive enough sunlight to thrive. It’s not as dense as some other grass varieties, so it may not feel as comfortable on bare feet.

There are tools known as “sprinkler donuts” that are specially designed to aid in cutting the grass around your sprinkler heads by protecting them from your mower or weed whacker. You can also use a pair of hand shears to do the job manually if you’re willing to get a little dirty.

Due to its slow growth, Bahia grass does not generally take over weeds. In fact, the opposite can be true. Young Bahia grass is susceptible to being taken over by weeds. 

Likewise, in the cool season, Bahia grass goes into a dormant state that can allow weeds that thrive in early spring to get the upper hand. If you want to prevent weeds from taking over your yard, remove them by hand or apply a Bahia grass-friendly pre-emergent herbicide to your lawn before weeds have a chance to appear.
