"We had some landscaping work to be done, and everything started out great. He said he would provide everything in writing, which he never did. We made the mistake of paying in full before the job was complete. Once payment was made we would have to call him to find out when he planned on completing the job. A date would be provided, and then he would not show up. We?d have to call again, and again, and he finally showed up to do more work. There was one thing left for him to do, and again we?d call. This time he did not even bother to return our calls. Beware if you decide to hire."

"Needed a tree removed from my backyard that was beginning to become problematic for me and my neighbor. I called up Emmett tree service and was very impressed. They worked very efficiently, and were very cautious of both properties as they worked. The Owners were also very nice and easy to work with and answered all my questions. One of the best tree services I’ve used in a long time and will be contacting again soon."

"Mat was a very professional young man and it was obvious he cared about his work. I had two stumps removed and my yard looks so much better than before. He even put down top soil, seeded, and put straw over it. We already have grass growing! Pricing was very reasonable and I appreciated the free estimate. Would definitely recommend!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

If it’s your property, then you can plant a tree near power lines, but it’s not the best idea. Any vegetation that grows within 10 feet or so of power lines will fall under the responsibility of the utility company, and they may trim or remove it as necessary. If you do move forward with your plan, try to choose a smaller ornamental tree, plant it as far away from the power lines as you can, and keep it trimmed to avoid future problems.

Trees that flower in the spring—like dogwood, cherry, magnolia, and pear—should not be pruned during the winter. These spring-flowering plants grow buds on old growth, so you’ll actually remove what would’ve been gorgeous flowering foliage. Instead, wait to prune until right after they bloom, when the flowers fade.

It is good to spray water on a Christmas tree to help keep the needles hydrated. Spraying a Christmas tree with water prevents dryness, stops needles from falling off, and reduces the risk of fire.

If an arborist is certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), the highest level of certification available is ISA Board Certified Master Arborist. According to the ISA, this credential is reserved for arborists “who have reached the pinnacle of their profession.” Check your arborist’s credentials before hiring to confirm their level of training and expertise.

Palm trees are unique in that their roots don't grow straight down; they grow horizontally. Typically, palm tree roots go down between 12 and 36 inches deep. The roots grow far and wide from the base of the palm tree to absorb as much water and soil nutrients as possible. In addition, the horizontal roots are also very strong—keeping palm trees stable and helping them sway during storms.
