"We had our house and deck power washed. Following that the deck was stained. We chose ClayWorks because of a very fair quote and good communication with us. We had a small change in the initial request and Clayton was very willing to adjust as requested. The crew (2 workers) were polite and professional and we are very pleased with the results."

Customers say: Quality work

"We had a very pleasant experience with Kevin & Ric from Herington Painting. They were prompt, courteous, and in constant communication with me during the entire time they were on the job. They did a great job staining the exterior of our house and took special care to cover our deck, awning and landscaping to protect them from any paint drips. We are very happy with the quality of their work and would recommend them to anyone in need of painting services."

"Chris was wonderful to work with from start to finish. We hired Perfection Painting and Wallpapering to paint our entire downstairs and upstairs hallway, and the experience was seamless. Chris provided a transparent quote, he & his team arrived on time every single day, and completed the job ahead of schedule. Most importantly, the quality of work exceeded our expectations. We would highly recommend Perfection Painting & Wallpapering."

Small jobs welcome

"Mike scraped, cleaned and painted our deck last July on one of the hottest days of the year. He showed up on time and worked throughout the day. When he ran out of paint (our fault, not his) he gladly went for more. He removed all furniture and then put back in place. The paint job itself was beautiful and I would definitely use again and recommend to anyone in need of his service."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.

Various kinds of substances and deck preservatives act as protective coatings for wood to prevent rot, which is caused by water getting into the wood and creating cracks and splits. Stains, paints, and sealants are the three best options to protect your wood, but there are also oils, varnishes, and waxes available. You’ll need to reapply sealant at least once per year, and you should inspect your wood deck regularly to look for signs of damage or general wear and tear.

You’ll need to restrain your deck when you notice fading, cracking, peeling, or mold and mildew over a moderate to large area, or when it’s become especially difficult to clean. As for how often to stain a deck, plan to do it every two to three years or whenever you start to notice extended damage.

You may be wondering: can you paint cement? Fortunately, the answer is yes.

To change the color of your cinder blocks, you have two options. You can either paint them or stain them. Either way, you'll be able to choose from a wide range of color options. Some popular colors for cinder block painting include off-white shades and gray tones, which add a modern spin to the traditional gray blocks.

For homes in areas with extreme weather, high heat, or intense sun exposure, high-quality acrylic paint is the best option. Acrylic paint is durable, resistant to both heat and cold, and provides a protective barrier with excellent UV resistance. For best results, look for acrylics that contain natural earth pigments, which are better suited for resisting sun damage. While oil-based paint is also durable, it can be prone to fading in high heat and can become too viscous to apply easily in cold temperatures. Additionally, choosing a neutral or light color like gray, beige, or white can help, as these colors absorb less heat than darker shades.
