Just before the start date, we were told something else had come up, so the job would be done in November and completed by Thanksgiving. That didn't happen. The start date was moved again; this time to early December with assurances that the work would be complete before Christmas. They did start work in December but it was mid January before the job was done. Furthermore, we had been told this job would be done personally by the owner and his son, but at the last minute, they contracted the work out to a private carpenter. The fellow who did this job was excellent. He had very high standards and consulted us daily about issues that came up or changes that he felt would be better for the job. He was careful and meticulous and did a fantastic job. The work began by gutting the bathroom. We were glad to have a second bathroom downstairs that we used during the entire renovation process. It took several weeks to level the floor and square the walls, refurbish the plumbing and update the electrical systems. The walls were back in just before Christmas. There was a delay over the holidays when no work was done, and then the final stages were completed in January. The room was painted and the new sink, toilet, tub, tub surround, electrical fixtures, and cabinets were installed. We had a contract for the work that was done detailing the cost of all items plus time and labor. We paid 50% up front plus money for the purchase of custom items, and the remainder was due upon completion. Everything worked fine until the end when we were presented an additional bill amounting to 15% above the agreed upon price. The explanation was that there had been cost overruns due to the complexity of the job. We had not been told that extra work was being done during the time of the renovation, and, with the exception of one small job we had asked to add, we had not approved any additional expenditures. I was very unhappy that the extra cost was sprung on us at the last minute. I believe that could have handled better. The bottom line is that the work that was performed was excellent and we are very pleased with the bathroom. I was not at all happy with the administrative issues (putting off the start time twice, running longer than promised including over the winter holidays, not consulting with us during the process about additional costs.)"},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ny/locke/locke-woods-interiors-reviews-4900998.htm"},"position":6},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Horizon Contracting Co","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"NY","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Laura W."},"reviewBody":"His charges for both jobs were very reasonable compared to other estimates. He communicated well as to what they planned to do and when they planned to do it. He was always available by text/cell call, including early morning, evenings, and weekends. I was nervous about paying up front, so he worked with me on the timing of the payments. I paid for the asbestos job all in one final payment at completion. I paid for the painting job in two installments -- one after the 3rd full day of work and the final payment on completion of the work. He discussed the boom lift placement with both neighbors and got their permission first. They cleaned up completely after each day. They did extra work, such as fixing broken structural pieces very nicely, replacing a broken window, helping me find used shutters, installing screen over gable vents frames. They also gave me advice when I asked for it. They completely finished the job to my complete satisfaction and above my expectations by the agreed-upon completion date. My house looks great! He is a kind of a handyman, does carpentry like remodeling kitchens. He actually put my whole house together and it has been fantastic work. He does decks, hardwood floors; I mean he does everything. He actually built the whole second floor of my house and refinished the whole first floor of my house; he is phenomenal. He helped me with my deck. As far as carpentry and general construction like that, he is a single guy; he is not expensive, but he is damn good. I am not going to find a harder work or more impeccable work whether it is refinishing, hardwood floors, putting in tile, putting in floors, putting in drywall, or painting. I cannot give a better recommendation. I had an excellent experience with him. He is good. I have never had any complaints regarding this guy. He is very honest; when he is my house, I don’t have to worry about him stealing around. I would wholeheartedly recommend this guy to anybody without any reservations. I am going to use him in the future if I need to. His son is working with him now, and he is certainly going to do my bedroom in the next couple of weeks."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ny/bradford/russ-ayers-reviews-6530479.htm"},"position":8},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Ivy Lea Construction","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"NY","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Susan F."},"reviewBody":"The estimate process started in late August. They provided reduced financing for a portion, so that took some time. We hashed out the design and then went to suppliers for choosing all items, cabinets etc. We then waited for a while for the materials and supplies to arrive as lots was special order. They began framing around the first week of November and completed the job by the first week of December. They were open to a few changes and minor request like a small electric baseboard heater and the under cabinet lights etc. They were very communicative, called if they were hung up on another job in the day. The daily clean up was good and the project was huge (for us) and it went just about 3 or four days longer than expected. But, that was not a big problem. I did the painting to save on some of the labor. It is a great addition to the house and I am sure took the overall value of the property up as it did not have a full bath or laundry on the first floor, The trim work and fine carpentry was matched perfectly with the other details in the house. We are very happy!"},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ny/north-tonawanda/ivy-lea-construction-reviews-292848.htm"},"position":9}]}

First of all, Davis Painting is extremely well organized. (We had previously had them power wash both porches.) Previously the floors had not been properly painted and the steps had not been treated at all, so they needed sanding and primer as well as paint and stain. Colby, the owner,...

FAQs for painting projects in Groton, NY
You should paint your home exterior every five to 10 years, on average. Climate and surroundings can affect how well paint holds up. Wood siding will likely need a fresh coat of paint every three to seven years. Paint on brick tends to last about eight to 17 years, on average.
Professional painters charge $20 to $50 per hour, on average. Hourly rate cost factors include the complexity of the paint job, the type of paint, the height of the walls and ceiling, and the type of prep and repairs needed. For example, removing wallpaper costs an additional $3 per square foot because it can be very time consuming and labor intensive. Your location will also impact the hour rate.
To estimate the cost to paint interior walls, multiply the square footage by the average price range to paint interior walls, which is $2 to $6 per square foot. For example, a 12-by-12-foot room with 8-foot tall walls is 384 square feet, meaning that the cost to paint the room will range from $768 to $2,304. Painting the ceiling and any trim will add to the overall cost, as will any repairs.
To calculate the square footage of a home exterior, painters multiply the length of the wall by the height of the wall to be painted. Then they add the total square footage for all of the walls to be painted. To calculate the price, they multiply the total square footage by their cost per square foot to prep and paint. Additional costs may factor in such as repairs, additional trim, and walls higher than the first story.
The cost to paint the exterior of a house ranges from $1,900 to $4,500 or about $1.50 to $4 per square foot, depending on the size, height, and complexity of the home layout. Other cost factors include your location, the type of siding (e.g., wood, aluminum, brick, stucco, etc.), and the kind of paint (e.g. oil-based, latex, acrylic, etc.). Painting the trim a different color or painting intricately designed trim can also increase the cost.
