"We had a little problem getting the right fan in here but other than that, it was terrific. I will absolutely use them again. They put a great unit in there that we're very pleased about. It's working well and saving us some money on fuel. It's very quiet which is nice."

"The job went very well. Doug provided a very fair quote to replace my 4 year old roof that was very poorly installed by a different contractor. He also provided a quote to replace my family room ceiling which was damaged due to the roof leaking. He responded to my request for an estimate within minutes and was at my house within 30 minutes to determine the work to be done. He was upset by the work by the previous contractor and his goal was to restore my confidence in small business contractors and he and his workers definitely did that. Doug and the crew were thorough and attentive to small details. They went above and beyond on some aspects of the job.....manufacturing and installing a finished edge where the roof met the house on the garage and on an addition, matching the paint color of my siding for that edging, painting the roof vents and power vent, adding very nice crown molding on the newly installed ceiling. The crew was friendly and respectful of my property and Doug checked in regularly to make sure things were progressing well and that I was satisfied. The job did take longer than the original estimate, but that was because of the issues that had to be dealt with. The work was completed for the price quoted. I will definitely contact Doug at Do It All Contractor for my next project. My confidence in contractors has been restored!"

"We have had many contractors over the years and this one was the best, by far. There were six primary DeRisio employees working in our house; each one was punctual, professional, hard-working, and skilled.
During the four weeks of work, construction started on time, every day, at 8:15 am. The guys got to work and made steady progress straight through until quitting time at 4:30 pm. We especially appreciated their effort, daily, to clean up and organize the kitchen before leaving. During demolition and the early part of installation, the kitchen was sealed off from the rest of the house by two sheets of plastic. There was never any dust or dirt to speak of in the rest of the house. When the installation phase got going in full, the crew checked with us at several intervals to make sure walls were built and lights were positioned just where we wanted them.
The quality of the work was phenomenal. The demolition guys were organized and methodical in how they dismantled our old kitchen. We could not believe how quickly our kitchen was stripped down to almost nothing. Two guys did most of the framing, rewiring, drywall hanging, and cupboard installation. These guys did fantastic work. They never seemed to be in a rush, but everyday we were so pleased with how much progress they made. And everything was done with attention to detail. The cabinets, cupboards, and crown molding are hanging tightly against the ceiling and walls. There are no ugly angles or unseemly gaps in the room.
We are the third owners of our house, which was built in 1925. The house has the original hardwood floors, molding and mantle that reminds you how great the craftsmen of long ago were. We, along with the previous owners, have kept the house in very good shape. No room has ever had a renovation quite this extensive. We are so happy that we worked with DeRisio Construction. This company designed and constructed a brand new kitchen that matches or exceeds the quality of the original craftsmen who built the house.

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Ceiling fans offer multiple benefits for your home. They improve air circulation to prevent stagnant environments and provide cost-effective temperature control, which can reduce reliance on your HVAC system and help lower utility bills. In addition to their functional advantages, ceiling fans can also enhance a room's aesthetic appeal with features like built-in lighting and modern styling.

The square footage of your room will dictate the correct ceiling fan blade size. For example:

  • Rooms smaller than 75 square feet require a fan that is 29 to 36 inches.

  • Rooms up to 175 square feet require 42- to 48-inch fans.

  • Rooms up to 350 square feet require 52- to 56-inch fans.

  • Expansive spaces over 350 square feet need a fan larger than 60 inches.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.

Yes, you can install a ceiling fan where a standard light fixture is, as the electrical wiring is often similar and may not need to be replaced. The most important step is to ensure the ceiling can support the fan's weight and motion. You will need to replace the existing light fixture's electrical box with a fan-rated electrical box, which is specifically designed to handle the extra weight and vibration. These boxes will be labeled as suitable for ceiling fan support and will indicate the maximum weight they can hold. Before you begin, also consider if you need an extension rod for a high ceiling or a special mount for an angled ceiling.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.
