"Bob contacted us to enquire if they could begin the work a few days earlier than scheduled. We consented to that and they began work ahead of schedule. The crew was three men, Bob, Ryan and Ryan. They were courteous and respectful and efficient. I have a background in construction trades so I know good mechanics when I see them. These men were pros and did a quality installation. I am very satisfied with the job they did and our home is far more comfortable since they finished. I know that our furnace runs significantly less and I expect our energy costs will be less. High-quality moving boxes made of durable materials like plastic also help ensure the longevity of your storage, as cardboard will degrade faster over time.

If you’re moving wires, installing new wires, or installing new fixtures in the space you’re insulating, then you will need to hire a licensed electrician to do that portion of the job for you. However, if you just intend on replacing old insulation or adding new insulation over existing insulation, then you don’t need to hire one. Your insulation installer will work around wiring, fixtures, outlets, and switches, even if they’re installing fiberglass batts in the voids where wires run. However, you will need an electrician if you suspect a problem with your wiring during the insulation work.

You do not always need to remove old insulation before adding new. If the existing insulation is in good condition—not wet, physically damaged, moldy, or infested with pests—you can add new insulation directly on top of it for a compounding effect. You can also mix different types, such as adding blown-in insulation around existing fiberglass batts.

However, removal is recommended if the old insulation is compromised by water damage or pests. You should also remove it if you plan to install a different type of insulation, like switching from roll or batt insulation to spray foam. If the existing insulation is very old or damaged, you will likely get more benefit from removing it and starting fresh.

Bubble wrap is better for moving since it can be cut to size, whereas dish foam comes in precut sheets that are harder to manipulate. However, if you’re packing items like dishes, wine glasses, picture frames, or mirrors, dish foam will protect them better. Ensure you measure your box beforehand so you know what size dish foam to purchase.
