"When I placed a request for the installation of two outlets on Angie's list, Steve got in touch right away but wasn't overly pushy either [which happens sometimes]. Between the three weeks I first spoke with him and the job, he was professional, informative, and responded to texts quickly and I knew exactly what to expect on-site as well as the cost. He sent pictures and cost of a similar job to help explain the work and the estimate. Steve identified some other issues with my electrical panel and made some small fixes--without increasing the cost of the job--and made some recommendations for me to consider in the future. He was courteous, professional, and seemed to care about the work and about communicating what he was doing and why. I would definitely turn to him first for my next job."

"WB Lightning Rods did an excellent job installing lightening rods on our home. The owner stayed onsite the entire time to supervise the work. He took extra care to plan the rod and cable placement to ensure the proper protection and retain the aesthetics of our home. His crew were knowledgeable, polite, neat and efficient. We could not be more pleased with the results."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

That depends on your setup. If a circuit breaker already has GFCI protection, then everything connected to that specific circuit is being monitored. You don’t need additional GFCI outlets on that breaker.

However, if the breaker is not GFCI, then you should have GFCI receptacles for at-risk outlets nearby water sources, because they are not receiving protection. Breakers in a breaker box can vary between GFCI and non-GFCI. Look for GFCI labels on the breaker or try to find the breaker model number to look it up if you aren’t sure.

A 100 amp electrical service panel can't convert into a 200 amp panel simply by switching the breakers or adding circuits. Upgrading from 100 to 200 amps typically requires replacing the circuit box and updating the electrical service coming into the house. Your electrician will handle the details of the project to ensure a safe and thorough installation.

Short circuits can cause significant damage to electrical appliances, bodily harm, and potentially death to humans. For this reason, they are a serious occurrence. If you’re unable to find and fix a short circuit on your own, you must reach out to a licensed electrician for help.

The average lifespan of a home electrical system is anywhere from 30 to 70 years or more, depending on the type of system you have. Modern electrical wiring, like aluminum or copper, can last 50 to 70 years while older types may need to be replaced sooner. Additionally, circuit breakers tend to last anywhere from 30 to 40 years, while electrical outlets need to be replaced every 10 to 25 years.

Short circuits can cause fires, electrical burns, and electrocution, which can lead to serious injury or even death. That’s why it’s important to take preventative measures to prevent short circuits, like getting annual electrical maintenance and an electrical inspection every two to five years, depending on the age of your home.
