"Hiring Elson, Ardi and their team was a great choice from Day One. Their proposal was well conceived, the price was very competitive, and the work was completed on time and on budget. Dismantling and removing the old roof deck on our co-op in midtown Manhattan and replacing it entirely with a well designed new one was a big job but was finished remarkably quickly. Plus, Elson made several recommendations that greatly improved final result. As President of our co-op, I would unequivocally recommend this company."

"Block made this process very simple (or as simple as it can be), and we are really happy with the design assistance we got, as well as them walking us through the design phase, procurement, board package, etc. Would definitely use again!"

Home staging is the process of preparing your property by creating an ambiance that speaks to the senses of today's buyers. Many buyers are unable to envision how to use a space without seeing it laid out in front of them. When HOUSE OF AMBIANCE stages a listing, we implement a Design Psychology that considers tones, textures and styles enriched with elements to soothe the emotions of today's buyer. This in turn stimulates the buyer's visual perception, that then evokes a feeling and a need to want to live in that space. When the buyer walks away, they leave the showing with an emotional attachment to a lifestyle. \n \nA realtor has a window of 30 minutes or less for that listing to impress the buyer. In that short showing the buyer quickly downloads a visual perception into their senses that stays with them after they leave the showing. The homes that "feel" good buries themselves into the good memory of the buyer. \n \n

Interior Design and Decorating FAQs, answered by experts

Whether hiring an interior designer is worth the cost depends on your budget, the scope of the project, and your own design and project management skills. For larger projects or those beyond your DIY skills, an interior designer is often a worthwhile investment. The benefits include realizing the best layout, functionality, and decor for your lifestyle and taste; managing the project to keep it on track and within budget; serving as a point of contact for contractors; accessing discounts from suppliers; and assisting with home staging for a sale.

Most interior designers have at least a four-year degree, if not an advanced degree in interior design. Additionally, many states require interior designers to be licensed. If your state does not require licensing, interior designers can take a licensing exam with the National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ). Overall, licensing requirements vary from state to state, but most licenses require certain education levels and experience to qualify. To check the qualifications of your interior designer, use Angi’s state licensing tool.

You should always hang the lights before the ornaments because hanging lights on top of ornaments can cause some to fall off. If a light sits directly on top of an ornament, it can cause it to heat up and possibly change its color or cause it to crack.

If you need help with your holiday decorating, the first step is determining your lighting and decor needs to narrow down your pro options. For example, if you want a custom outdoor light display with all of the bells and whistles, you’ll likely need to hire a local holiday light installer who specializes in that service. But if you only need to hang some lights inside in hard-to-reach places, consider hiring a handyperson or an interior decorator instead. It’s best to contact at least three different companies for quotes and to find out what services they offer.

Mid-century modern design focused primarily on two things: simple, functional furniture, often with geometric shapes, and specific color palettes that included earth tones and what we’d today call retro colors. Furniture often blended different materials, like teak or oak wood, with vinyl, metal, and glass. Common mid-century modern paint colors included browns, reds, burnt oranges, yellows, aqua greens, and whites.
