"They did a great job sealing. Great price and very good work. They took their time, were very clean and neat, no over spray and delivered a very good product. Highly recommend. Also to note: they prepped the driveway and made it very clean for the seal. Extra attention was given to the more worn areas."

"Frank and team do QUALITY work with a capital Q. I was putting a new driveway on top of a 30 year old driveway. The prep was meticulous, they arrived on time, and the final details - the tapering of the asphalt on the edges and by the entrance, the leveling by the driveway concrete, etc, was all near perfect."

"The job they did was great. Very nice, cleaned up well also. However I have 1 big problem and that is why I have to give them a C overall. After they came to give me an estimate my wife found a 10% off coupon in one of our newspapers. I was quoted $2,600 so I figured we would save $260 when I paid. So when Richard came to my house on May 1st to get payment info I handed him the coupon. He proceeds to tell me that he can not accept it. Now the coupon clearly says valid until 5-29-15. Our driveway was just done April 30th so its not expired. The reason he says is because I am using a credit card and he has to pay fees to accept credit cards. I understand that but nowhere on this coupon does it says only valid for cash or check payments. If it did I would have no argument. Being a former business owner myself I also know in NY it is illegal to impose a surcharge to use a credit card...... This coupon is totally false advertising and I am not happy about it at all. Its a shame because my father down the road was going to be using them and I have 3 co-workers who were waiting to see how my driveway came out before they got theirs done. Now instead of me praising them for the great job they did I have to tell this story of what I feel is VERY poor business practice's. And because of this they have now lost numerous potential customers including myself when I need to seal the driveway.

"B&E did a great job removing and replacing my asphalt driveway. Total pros. Reliable and fair price. I’ve already recommended them to a neighbor and a friend. Thank you!"

Driveway Sealcoating questions, answered by experts

In general, water-based driveway sealers are considered the most eco-friendly option. Products that utilize water, limestone, and some basic binding agents have lower VOC levels and odor levels compared to sealants made with oil or tar. In recent years, soy-based driveway sealers have become available for homeowners who want fully VOC-free driveway sealers.

Regular sealing, crack filling, and professional inspections help extend pavement lifespan and prevent costly repairs.

A properly applied asphalt driveway sealer, or sealcoat, should last between one and five years. The industry standard is to reseal every two to three years for optimal protection. If you live in a climate with extreme weather, such as heavy rainfall or freezing temperatures, you may need to reseal your driveway more frequently, around every two years. Signs that your driveway needs a new coat of sealant include the appearance of small cracks or uneven drying after rain.

Hot-pour sealants have an asphalt cement base that might also include rubber and other materials to allow the seal to flex in hot or cold temperatures. Asphalt emulsion sealants are not heated but are liquid applications that use water and an emulsifying agent to allow the asphalt and water to mix.

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.
