The degree to which you include bold colors in your mid-century modern design is all about personal preference. It gives you the freedom to stay mostly muted and use accent walls or pillow covers to bring pops of colors, or go all in and cover your walls with bright, loud colors.

The exterior Colonial colors are earthy greens, neutrals, blacks, blues, peaches, pinks, and white. Unless you’re using a 2-in-1 formula or painting over an existing coat of paint, it pays to apply a coat of primer ahead of your new paint. Decks see a lot of footfall and exposure to extreme and sudden temperature changes and moisture levels. The primer promotes better paint adhesion, moisture repellency, and a smoother finish, which means you’ll often need fewer coats of paint. 

You can paint over cracked paint, but only if you properly sand down the damaged areas. Once the surface is as smooth as you can get it, clean the walls and let them dry before applying a new coat of paint. Painting over cracked paint without sanding or cleaning beforehand will not cover up the cracks and may even make them look worse.
