Customers say: Quick response

"We worked with Antonio to fix our front steps, which were in pretty bad shape. He was super kind and fast to respond at all times. His quote was also the most reasonable we found. They worked quick and the end result is amazing. We are so happy we decided to go with him. He is going to be my go-to masonry guy for life!"

"Work was done well and what was done looks good. The spacing between the blocks is less than the original which looks better but this resulted in the need for more blocks. I purchased additional blocks so that they could complete the border on one side but the other side is borderless. The job was supposed to have the walkway look the same once completed. Also, the material used in between the blocks has come out and popped up in places. I texted a couple of times to have it fixed but to no avail"

"The servicemen arrived as scheduled.  Both workers were very pleasant. They removed the old window without any problem. The installation took a few hours (~2-3) - as explained to me over the phone and expected. They were very neat about the fireproofing and sealing of the window. We won't be able to test this until the Winter months, but we can wait. :) They even tried to assist me in re-installing the home security device. Overall, a very good experience. The window looks great and appears to be able to withstand the harsh weather conditions of the Northeast."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

While painting can certainly change the look of a chimney, you should think twice about giving your brick chimney the old landlord special.

Painting brick is porous, meaning it’s full of tiny holes that can soak up moisture. Those holes also allow it to dry, though. So, when you paint it, you trap any moisture inside, providing an opportunity for mold, mildew, and water damage.

Paint also shows wear faster than naked brick. This means that once you paint a brick surface, you’ll have to keep painting it to maintain a clean look. A paint job is also harder to undo on brick because of its porous nature. Once you paint it, it’s hard to go back without some serious power washing—another added cost.

The white stains you see on your bricks are likely efflorescence, which is salt and lime buildup. To remove efflorescence stains, simply brush them away with a stiff brush. For larger, more stubborn stains, scrub the stains with a water-detergent solution.

Certain towns and homeowner associations (HOAs) ban brick mailboxes because of the risk of obstruction. They are sometimes only permitted in cases where four or more homes share a mailbox. Homeowners may need to obtain special permits in some locations. One of the top masonry contractor hiring tips is to ask a local pro if they can show you examples of recent work that meets local code regulations.

Yes, you can technically use a pressure washer to remove paint from brick, but it comes with a significant risk of damaging the brick surface. A high-power pressure washer can be fast but may leave the brick looking unsightly. The recommended method is to first apply a chemical paint stripper, following the product's instructions, and then use a stiff metal bristle brush or a pressure washer on a low-pressure setting to remove the loosened paint. Due to the risk of damage, it is often best to hire a professional who can use low-stress methods.

Two types of masonry are veneer masonry and solid masonry. Veneer masonry is thin brick or stone material attached to the face of a building. With veneer masonry, the walls support the weight of the masonry products rather than the masonry being built on a concrete footing. Solid masonry is a wall or other brick or stone structure built on a concrete footing, and the masonry supports itself.
