"Eric and his team did the required work and then some. I was pleased with the results being that they had to work in between the rain showers which was a headache."

"After looking at multiple tree service companies, I finally decided to use L.A. tree service. I had a large tree in my backyard that was too close to the house, a sunroom, and the electric wires. Considering all the obstacles, cutting that tree, and bringing the branches down was a logistical challenge. I decided to go with L.A. Tree Service because they were highly recommended by my neighbor John and because they also had the best price. That was the best decision that I made. The moment that I contacted Jose from L.A. Tree Service he promptly came by the house for an estimate. Jose, as well as the rest of his crew, was very friendly and professional. We scheduled the job, and they arrived on-time and ready to do the work. Everything went flawless. They brought down every branch with the outmost precision. No damage to my property or the electrical wires and everything was clean by the time they finished. I enthusiastically recommend this company."

"Julio responded promptly, coming out to give me an estimate that afternoon. He assessed both trees, said he could remove the maple without damage to my neighbor's shed, and said the other tree was alright. (He could have said it needed to come down too, and increased the job for himself and the cost to me, but he didn't.) He took down the split maple safely, without touching my neighbor's shed, and removed all the debris, including some branches that weren't part of the tree's being taken down. I am impressed by his professionalism and honesty. His price was very reasonable, and his willingness to do a relatively small job much appreciated. I would hire him again without question."

"I had a roughly 50+ year-old 3 story tree that finally needed to be cut down due to termite and other possible insect infestation. We looked up Angie's List and L.A. Tree Expert responded to our need. They came a few days earlier to assess the situation and gave us an estimate. They told us how the gameplan would down, what to do and how to prepare. We were impressed by their manpower, equipment, and professionalism. On Sat, November 7, they showed up and started early and on time, and we were greatly impressed with the speed and accuracy of how they did their job without damaging any surrounding property. Keep in mind, my 3 story high tree was located in my backyard, so it was definitely not easy to get to, but they managed to get the job done and in a very timely fashioned manner. We thought this kind of work would take over 6 hours, but this company managed to complete their work in just about 4 1/2 hours, and also cleaned up after themselves. The price was very reasonable, communication was also very good, and they were honest from start to finish. Although I have nothing left for them to continue the use of their services, I would strongly recommend anyone to seek them out if you need tree pruning or tree removal. They do go by other different names such as L.A. Tree Service, but in either case, it was a pleasure finding a Licensed Tree Cutting Services company that is honest, won't rip you off on a quote (unlike other tree cutting companies I have contacted thruout the years) and knows how to get the job done without hassle."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

A serrated knife will work for cutting off small palm tree fronds, about 1 inch in diameter. For larger fronds, you will need pruning shears. You may also use a pruning saw, and if your palm tree is especially tall, an extended pole saw can help you reach the brown fronds around the trunk.

A chainsaw is the best tool to cut down a tree, but you may also use a handsaw or ax. You may also want to use a lopper or pole saw to remove limbs before cutting down the tree. Wear chainsaw chaps and protective gear, including eyewear and earplugs if you use a chainsaw. Again, if you’re unsure about how to use this tool, this project may be one to skip.

The felling notch you make before you make the final cut will determine which way the tree will fall. The cut will be in a wedge or triangle, and the tree will fall from the highest point of the triangle. You can use this, as well as the process described above, to estimate where a tree will fall.

Most trees can be successfully transplanted while they are young, but pines, walnuts, and some oak tree varieties are more difficult to move because their root systems grow deeper than most other trees. Also, trees adapted to sandy soil with wide root systems like beeches, willows, and aspens are harder to dig out because their roots spread much farther out from the trunk. In these cases, unless the trees are very young and small, it’s a good idea to consult a tree planting professional.

Licensing requirements for arborists, also known as tree surgeons, vary by state and municipality. Many areas require a license, which often involves specialized education and experience. Even if not mandated, it's wise to hire a licensed professional as they tend to have more experience. Beyond licensing, look for certifications from organizations like the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), as this indicates a higher level of expertise. Certified arborists must typically pass a comprehensive exam. Always confirm that the arborist has a business license and is fully insured to protect yourself from liability. Seeking positive recommendations from local homeowners is also a good step in finding a qualified professional.
