"This is the second time Paul has had a crew in my yard. About 3 years ago, they spent a day here taking down a large number of dead ash trees. When they left, the yard was completely cleaned-up, graded and seeded. I called him earlier this week to see if he could take down a few more dead trees and plant some new. He told me he'd be there by 8am today - he was here by 7:45. The crew started promptly and did a great job - the new trees look great! I would absolutely recommend Bob's (and have) to anyone looking for a reliable tree service."

"I found Veterans Pride through Angi. I needed a dead tree that was starting to lean into my power lines cut down. They responded to my request quickly and were able to do the job immediately. They arrived when they said, and had the job done in a couple hours. They hauled everything away. I did not pay for stump removal. I am very happy with the service."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

For trimming trees, your best tool is a pair of pruning shears or loppers. Both options work best for branches that are under 3 inches in diameter. Trimming trees with a larger diameter may require a robust tool like a small chainsaw or a handsaw, so take into account your tree’s diameter when deciding between tools.

Trees should be pruned every two to five years, depending on its age and type. Young trees should be inspected and pruned every two to three years. Mature trees should be inspected and trimmed every three to five years, and fruit trees should be pruned annually with a careful eye on seasonal growth. Evergreens typically don’t need pruning, unless branches or limbs are damaged, diseased, or harboring pests.

Aside from removing dead or diseased branches, you should prune your trees somewhere between every one and three years. Some people—particularly commercial farmers—prune their apple trees yearly to produce higher yields. This is the best way to promote tree health. That said, the average homeowner can get away with hard-pruning their mature apple tree every other year or every three years.

The Christmas tree type that smells the best to you will ultimately depend on personal preference. But if that classic Christmas tree smell is important to you, choosing a type of tree known for its scent is a safe bet. Try a balsam fir for a spicy, comforting scent or a Douglas fir for a sweeter smell. You may also like Fraser firs, Scotch pines, and blue spruces.

Professionals use assessments, strategic cuts, specialized equipment, and safety measures to ensure healthy growth or the safe removal of trees or shrubs.
