"We hired Marc and Parlor City Construction to enlarge our living room, by installing a LVL beam in the ceiling, replacing/rerouting electric outlet, reworking our floor to match and drywall and plaster our entire living room ceiling. The job was completed very professionally, on time service and at a reasonable cost. Each and every employee of Parlor City Construction was professional, congenial and trustworthy. We will in the future be hiring Parlor City Construction for further remodeling of our home."

"Dan was recommended to me for his quick response and excellent work. Dan was contacted for emergency repair for a handicapped ramp at my clinic on a Saturday evening that was severely damaged. He was here on a Sunday, so my business could be open for patients Monday. He and his crew worked diligently and went above and beyond my expectations to keep my business open and running smoothly with minimal interruptions as possible while keeping the safety of my patients and staff as his priority. He and his crew did an amazing job. The complete ramp rebuild turned out wonderful. It was a quick makeover for our entire building. I would highly recommend Dan and his company for any of your repair needs."

"The Parlor City people did an excellent job on my water damaged wall. After the damaged section was repaired they plasterd the whole wall. You cannot tell the wall was ever damaged. It looks perfect. They did the whole job in a day and a half. And they cleaned up everything. I will certainly call Parlor City for other jobs and will highly recommend them."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

Plaster ceilings can sag for several reasons. In some cases, the plaster and other building materials shift and come apart over time, which is why you’ll commonly find drooping plaster ceilings in older homes. Improper installation, foot traffic, and water damage—often from a leaky roof or a broken pipe—can also cause plaster ceilings to sag.

Depending on how much adhesive was used as well as the strength of the adhesive, you may have some drywall damage when removing a mirror. You can typically repair most drywall damage if it’s small by sanding the damaged area, applying spackle to smooth the damaged section so it’s flush with the rest of the wall, and repainting the area.

You’ll want to inspect your plaster walls for signs of damage before painting. If you notice soft spots, deep cracks, bubbling, or areas where the plaster is crumbling or pulling away from the wall, it likely needs repair. While small hairline cracks are common and likely cosmetic, you should address larger issues before painting to ensure a quality, smooth finish.

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

Damp plaster does dry out, although the drying time depends on several factors, including the type of plaster, the surrounding temperature, moisture content, and the extent of the dampness. Sometimes, it can take weeks or months for wall plaster to dry naturally.
