Customers say: Quick response

"Mike and Daryl completely gutted my first floor kitchen, dinning and living rooms. Removed walls, added a load bearing beam, added new insulation, drywall and all new electrical. They performed all demo and remodeling themselves with very little outside help. They are very knowledgeable in all aspects of contracting. The quality of their craftsmanship was great. They were always here working and were easy to get in contact with when needed. They listened to what I wanted done and made it happen. I would recommend Quality Craft for any home improvement project."

"This company is wonderful! They did everything they promised and more! For example, an unexpected leak happened in the basement so they used some towels of mine to soak up the water. The towels were not salvageable so the owner of the company went to Target and bought me new ones. They also fixed a water damaged wall in my hallway!! These guys were great. Respectful, responsible, personable and trust worthy. I know I’m calling them again for my next home project."

"Monroe & More were amazing - excellent communication and they arrived with five builders who completed our deck in one day! They left the property as they found it. Enjoyed working with them to get the quote and set up the job."

"Work started incredibly late. Most work was done as agreed upon. Contractor provided a few incentives on the building for being behind schedule. However, there were several items that had to be reminded about. There were also several items that were not done, or done poorly. I had to call the contractor because of missing insulation and covering, and they never came out to repair as promised. My side yard where a trailer sat for weeks was damaged, and was not repaired. The contractor did have sub contractors."

"I called Jim toward the end of August to get an estimate for patching a large hole in my kitchen ceiling due to a plumbing situation that had been finally resolved. I also wanted him to patch a hole in an upstairs bedroom wall and a crack in a bathroom wall. He gave me an estimate of $350, which was within my budget, so I asked him how much he would charge to paint the kitchen ceiling and a small powder room ceiling where the plumbing problem had left a stain. He felt the whole kitchen ceiling should be repainted in order to get a uniform look, and I agreed. He quoted me an additional $100 plus paint to do the ceilings. I thought maybe I could do the painting myself, so we contracted to have him come out to do the drywall repair the following week. Jim arrived promptly and set to work. It took him all morning and well into the afternoon to do the patches. He worked meticulously and was very careful about using plastic to protect floors, counters, and furniture. I was extremely impressed with the results, and so I asked him to return and do the painting for me as well, which he did the following week. Again, I couldn't be happier with my "new" kitchen ceiling! It is flawless. I will definitely put Jim at the top of my list for major and minor repairs to my home if I need someone in the future. He was pleasant, polite, and industrious. I am very pleased to highly recommend him on Angie's list.

Barndominium Builders FAQs, answered by experts

Depending on your needs, you may find a storebought pole barn is a much less expensive option than a custom-built one. You can find pole barn kits from big box retailers starting at $11,000, but you will be limited when it comes to size and add-on features. As long as you have the necessary skills, you can save on labor costs by doing it yourself; but there are a lot of different skill sets you would need, and mistakes during the building process can lead to excessive repair bills later.

The lifespan of a barn is typically 40 to 60 years, but with skillful construction and proper maintenance, it can last up to 100 years. The actual lifespan depends on several factors, including the barn type, materials, usage, and climate. For example, the posts of a pole barn should last 50 years or longer, but if the structure is used for livestock in a rainy climate, it may rot within the first decade. Custom designs with high-end materials tend to last the longest. To get the best estimate for your barn's lifespan, you should consider its material type and intended use.

There's no simple answer to which is less costly: wood or metal-framed homes. In most cases, metal building components cost more than wooden ones, while entire metal buildings cost less than wooden versions. However, regardless of the exterior framing or structure, each must meet similar building codes. This means that the costs are about the same, even considering that wood will require more maintenance than metal over time.

The construction stage is almost always the longest part of building a house. Within this stage, framing often takes the most time, lasting anywhere from one week to a couple of months, depending on the home's size, the crew, and the time of year. Other parts of the construction phase include pouring the foundation and installing doors, windows, a roof, siding, drywall, and flooring. The planning and design phase can also be very time-consuming, sometimes taking months or even years, especially for a custom home. The final finishing process, which includes painting and installing trim, is typically shorter than the construction or planning stages.

Your chicken coop needs to be off the ground to protect your chickens and avoid problems brought on by flooding, mud, and moisture. If you can't locate a high area to build the coop, you should build an elevated coop to ensure it stays dry.
