"Long Hill Masonry renovated our front and rear stoops, which after 65 years were slowly falling apart. My husband and I are Thrilled with how they turned out. Within 2 days of our call, Joe Tavella (Owner) came to our home to give us an estimate. We explained what our ideas were and Joe even added further suggestions to improving the design. Joe, through his expertise and knowledge was able to do what 3 other contractors told us they couldn't do. After knowing this and with a fair quote, we asked Joe when can he start the job. The job was then completed in a very timely manner (in 1 day). Joe and his team were neat reliable, efficient, meticulous and took real pride to producing top quality work. End result...Perfection at it's Best! Beautiful stoops to last a Lifetime! Without hesitation we look forward to having Long Hill Masonry do another project for us. Would highly recommend."

"I would like to add to my previous post that they leave the work site so clean you won't even know they were there except for the masterpiece they left behind. Truely exceptional quality workmanship!!"

"The F&B crew was great. They showed up when they were supposed to, worked hard all day, and did beautiful work. Jessy helped me find the perfect materials for my jobs. She made sure that every last detail was taken care of. She really went the extra mile to make sure that I was completely satisfied with their work. I would strongly recommend F&B Masonry to anyone looking to have stone work done at their home or business."

"Stephen Randazzo I highly recommend this company to do your masonry work. He installed a 64 foot long sidewalk around the property. It is absolutely magnificent. It changed the whole look of the house, and gave it great curb appeal. Professional, great price and on time you wonâ t be disappointed. Thank you Stephen and company for a great job! "Hands down the best service I received in a long time. Knowledgeable, Punctual and Reasonable are a few qualities that come to mind. Misael fixed my front steps and also refilled my existing pavers with the right sand that the prior contractor did not do. His attention to detail is on point. He did an excellent job of cleaning up after completing his work, which to me is the biggest selling point for myself. Would highly highly recommend him for your next job!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Some older brick material is extremely hard, making it tough to create a hole. Rather than using a typical wood drill bit, always use a masonry drill bit when drilling into brick. For extremely hard brick, using a power drill with a hammer function may give you better results. The drill bit will heat up as it goes into the extremely hard brick, so you may need to stop after a few minutes and allow the bit to cool before starting to drill again.

Unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to stone houses. They are slow to build and the materials are pricey, both of which balloon the total cost. Stone walls require a more robust foundation, which costs more to install. Running plumbing, electrical, and HVAC through a stone house is much more difficult too, so homeowners need to seriously consider if the aesthetic benefit is worth the cost of building with stone. One of the questions to ask a masonry contractor is if a similar aesthetic can be achieved with another material.

No, it’s not recommended to attach shutters to brick without drilling. Brick is dense and built to last, so adhesives and shortcut methods don’t usually cut it. Even heavy-duty glue struggles to hold up over time—especially against wind, moisture, and temperature changes. Most no-drill options are made for materials like vinyl or wood, not solid masonry. Skipping the drill might seem easier, but it puts your shutters—and anything below them—at risk. For a secure, lasting install, drilling is the way to go. It takes more effort up front, but the result is safer and more reliable.

Modern brick homes have a brick facade over standard framing and sheathing, so the brick offers minimal added structural stability. A home with traditional brick construction is more durable than a stick-built home, as the double-layer brick walls and rebar resist higher lateral wind loads and support heavier loads up top, as well.

Dekton is worth the money for homeowners who want a nonporous countertop that resists heat, stains, water, scratches, and UV damage. It comes in a wide array of colors and patterns at various price points to suit different renovation budgets. Dekton is not worth the cost for homeowners who are particularly worried about chipping or cracking.
