"Guy was so amazing in helping us refinish our floors - after another company couldn't finish the job right. Communication was excellent, as was timeliness, setting and meeting expectations of the job, and the floors look perfect! Highly recommend."

"Jason, from D & L Hardwood Flooring was a true professional. It was a pleasure to work with someone that actually returns phone calls and follows up with commitments. In addition to his outstanding service, my floors came out exactly as I wanted them. The last company I used disappointed me. I highly recommend D & L."

"The work was done on time and very efficiently. There was a big ugly gap between my kitchen tile floor and the dining room hardwood floor. I couldnâ t be happier with the work Brothers Hardwood Flooring did, they covered the gap and restored my hardwood floor, it all looks beautiful and professionally done. 100% recommend them."

"After receiving several estimates to have our floors done throughout our entire home, John from Carpet One was the most professional, respectful and knowledgeable person we met with. There are some interesting â floor guysâ out thereâ ¦thatâ s me putting it nicely. He delivered the estimate to us in the same day- which was amazing considering he came to us late in the day (as requested). He even used an ipad to map and measure the square footage precisely. He left floor samples with us so we could see the floor in different light throughout the day. I was able to easily retrieve additional samples from the show room to which helped us make our final decision. John was patient with us throughout the entire process - we were planning to apply the same floor throughout our entire house .. and as a first time home owners we did not want to rush! The team that installed the flooring worked hard, fast and cleaned up after themselves. They were meticulous.. we had several closets floored and tough angles. The floors were installed about three months ago- the quality is outstanding! Luxury is an understatement. As We continued working on our new home, the floors have been able to withstand spills, drops and moving furniture with no damage. When we had a very minor concern he came by the same day to look at it for usâ ¦ and of course without being asked took his shoes off at the door! We have received so many compliments. Our floor is our homeâ s statement piece! Thank you so much John and everyone at Carpet One for helping us turn this house into a home. If youâ re looking to update your floors- contact John from Carpet One if you want a headache free/authentic/honest and high quality experience!"

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

The need to replace your flooring depends on the type of flooring and the amount of wear and tear it experiences through foot traffic. For example, you should replace carpet every ten years, but other, more durable options like tile can last up to 30 years. It’s best to speak with your flooring installation professional to determine the best course for replacing your flooring.

If you don’t put padding under your carpet, the carpet won’t be protected from wear on the underside. This could result in a shorter life span for your carpet and increased carpet repair costs over time. An unpadded carpet can also be less comfortable to walk on, depending on your subfloor and the type of carpet.

Carpet is an effective natural insulator, so it will make a room slightly warmer than laminate. The material’s insulating properties also make carpeted rooms more efficient for temperature regulation.

While it is possible to install carpet yourself, it is a challenging DIY project that requires precise measurement, proper cutting skills, and knowledge of correct installation techniques. The process involves multiple steps, including removing old flooring, installing underlayment and tack strips, and stretching the carpet to prevent wrinkles, which can take several days to complete.

Before starting, consider these factors:

  • Warranty: Many manufacturers' warranties are voided if the carpet is not installed by a professional.

  • Tools: You will need to buy or rent specialized equipment like a knee kicker, carpet stretcher, and seam roller.

  • Complexity: DIY installation is most suitable for simple, straightforward rooms. Projects involving stairs or floor vents are significantly more difficult.

  • Cost: While you can save on labor, the cost of tools plus the risk of expensive mistakes—which may require re-installation—can make hiring a professional more cost-effective in the long run.

Given the potential for errors, voided warranties, and the need for special tools, hiring a local carpet installer is often recommended to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.

Most cities accept old carpet as bulk trash, typically without any nails or glue on the base of the carpet. You may be required to request a specific pickup and wrap the carpet into specific bags. You can also visit your local recycling center and pay a small fee to have the carpet materials recovered.
