We wanted to know whether it could be used as-is, and whether we could install a wood or pellet stove on the back side of the chimney and making the fireplace inoperable. We wanted estimates on costs of repairs and installation of stoves and liners. I called other chimney repair companies in the area, too...none responded except Brickliners, who promptly returned my call and set up an appointment a couple of weeks out. I thought the time frame was very reasonable, given we were in the busiest time of year with winter setting in. The company called to confirm the exact time/date just prior to the day we had discussed. Adam showed up right on schedule. He was very polite and put shoe covers on in order to protect the floors. I appreciated this! He examined the fireplace, chimney (top to bottom) and furnace, which vents into one of the flues in said chimney. Unfortunately, he confirmed my suspicions. All are in bad shape, improperly installed and/or in need of repair. He explained everything thoroughly and showed pictures of things that we couldn't see with the naked eye. In addition to the generally bad news, he gave us a number of options and routes we could go and provided the information we need to make the best, most economically sound decisions as we move forward. This was exactly what we wanted! We received a detailed report of the findings (in a nice shiny folder with their card and other information- very professional!) and many photos were taken to be kept on file if we need them. All this at no cost. Wow. Thanks Brickliners! We will definitely call you for future work and recommend your services to others. BONUS: I had mentioned that the damper in the fireplace didn't work. Adam was able to get it as operational as possible while he was examining it. He even insisted on cleaning up the resulting mess of mortar, metal and flue pieces that rained down when he did this. What a guy! I wanted to switch it from a chimney venting setup to a direct vent. He told me I would have to buy a new boiler which would cost about $8,000 to replace. This company is unethical. Wanted me to lie to my insurance company to make a claim to get my repair done.

I have nothing but good things to say about Steve. Even though he was fully booked, he made the effort to stop by between appointments to help us out. Steve was efficient, professional, and quickly found the source of the problem. When he traced to the problem to a furnace component, he...

"I called for a free estimate, Justin came promtly and inspected the chimey. He showed me pictures of the problems and spelled out all the options. I explained to him that my cellar has floode due the problems and was anxious to get the repairs done. Justin quoted a price that was fair and much lower then any other estimates. To my surprise he said that he could do the job that day. He kept sending me pictures as the work progressed so I knew exactlywhat he was doing. He was professional and honest about what needed to be done. I was more then pleased with him and the company. I highly recommend .Chimneys are us."

"This was the most money we have ever paid anyone to do anything...ever. The Sheridans had our trust throughout the entire process. They gave an affordable quote and did awesome work. They cleaned up during each stage of the project and always communicated well with me about timing and issues that came up. Our garage dimensions were awkward and not a perfect rectangle by any means - these guys had to craft a kit of workarounds for irregular shapes and curves. Todd and Luke are good human beings with positive attitudes, and care about their integrity and their work. I hope to use them in the future."

Yes, it can be worth installing a gas fireplace, depending on your home heating needs. The cost to install a gas fireplace can be much lower than the cost to install a comparable wood-burning fireplace. The convenience of starting a fire with the flip of a switch and turning it off just as quickly makes a gas fireplace a big time saver over starting and maintaining a wood-fueled fire. A gas fireplace also does not require ash cleanup or frequent chimney cleaning to remove creosote and other buildup that can lead to chimney fires. Gas fireplaces burn and heat much more cleanly than wood fireplaces.
A gas fireplace insert costs about $3,600 to install, on average. The cost to install a gas log insert ranges from about $700 to $6,500, depending on the size, type of insert, how it works, and heating needs. Gas fireplaces need electrical and gas lines installed properly, so hiring a pro is recommended rather than trying to DIY installation.
