"Joel, the owner, was responsive, timely, and considerate of our input and many questions. We'd an easygoing exchange between us throughout the process, which was not a lengthy one, as his efficient crew worked energetically till nightfall to complete the work staying just ahead of the impending rainfall. Joel has a good eye for detail and was present to assess his crew's work throughout the day, which further reinforced our appreciation of him, which helped keep us relaxed throughout the project. Additionally, as the cost was competitive, we're certain that when the need for a contractor presents again in the future, we'll call Ventura Contracting for whatever project we find we need help with."

"UPDATE, Spring 2025: Rich came to help with a roof leak that caused drywall damage in our great room. He assessed the issue quickly, provided options to choose from, and even helped us navigate our insurance claim. He and his team fixed this issue and did a beautiful job painting our tricky interior. --- We struggled to find someone to remove an old stove from our kitchen and install a new one that we had been storing in our garage. When I called Rich, he was immediately willing to help, and came within 3 days of our initial conversation. He kept us up to date on his schedule and his arrival time. He worked quickly and carefully, and we're so grateful for his help. We'll definitely reach back out for some other upcoming home improvement needs we have."

"They were very professional, Gave me a fair estimate, came when they were suppose to, Did an excellent job even though my walls were not completely level. In places where I wasn't sure how they could make it look good, I was impressed with what they did. They picked everything up when the job was done, And even did a couple little extra things for me. Yes, I would hire them again."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Fiber cement shingle siding is made from a blend of common ingredients, including cement, sand, water, and wood or cellulose fibers. The composition of the mixture varies depending on the manufacturer, however, with some makers opting to include special additives to improve longevity and resilience, and some include dyes and pigments to create custom colors that don’t require painting.

You cannot install clapboard siding on a bare, unprepared surface. Clapboard siding requires a clean, sturdy base made from plywood or similar materials, sometimes called backerboard. Then, it needs an underlayment or sheathing, a moisture membrane to help protect the exterior wall.

Note that sometimes clapboard siding is caulked as it’s installed for additional protection. We don’t suggest this: Caulking the siding can trap moisture inside the clapboards and lead to moisture damage over time. The siding needs some space to “breathe,” especially in rainy weather.

Vinyl, brick veneer, stucco, steel, stone veneer, and composite siding are popular alternatives to wood siding. Which siding material is best for your home boils down to your budget, aesthetics, lifestyle, and climate. For example, stone veneer offers a timeless charm and is low maintenance but may have too high of a price tag. Meanwhile, some homeowners love vinyl siding for its low cost, while others dislike it for its appearance and shorter life span.

Both vinyl and metal are very popular siding options, and it’s important to weigh the pros and cons of each before making a decision for your home. Vinyl has a lower price point than metal and is easier to install, but metal siding is more durable, longer-lasting, and requires much less maintenance. The upfront costs could save you money in the long run.

Yes, you can install siding over stucco, but it's crucial to ensure the stucco is in good condition first. Before proceeding, inspect the stucco for any signs of damage, leaks, or mold growth. If you discover water damage, mold, or have ongoing leak issues, it's recommended to remove the stucco completely. This step prevents future problems like mold and pest infestations and allows a professional to repair or replace any damaged sheathing underneath. If the stucco is sound, the installation process involves attaching furring strips to the wall's framing directly through the stucco. The new siding is then installed onto these furring strips. A professional may also need to adjust window and door openings to prevent them from being recessed behind the new siding, which can cause aesthetic issues and create potential leak points.
