"Joe has been very professional and we are very happy with work so far. Weather stopped us short of finishing in fall, so looking forward to seeing everything complete. I have a relative who is a retired professional painter. He gave me a list of questions to ask. Joe answers were all what I was told to expect from a quality painter. We would use Joe again for projects or painting."

"Rich and his team have done several restorations. First and foremost he put in a new bathroom upstairs, from the plumbing to all the fixtures, insulation wiring everything that is required and a job well done! They also re-wired the house for a 200amp service from pole to house then took on running new wire from house to barn then to shed. All passed with flying colors. He also took on blowing insulation into the attics, what a difference the first summer and winter that year! Rich and his team helps with good guidance on this old farmhouse. They always came through, looking forward to their help in the future."

"Brian is mainly my motorcycle Mechanic. I have exchanged money for his services many times and want to express to others my experience with him. Brian is very careful with my cycle, will work with me and my schedule at my home and sometimes at his home. He works very carefully showing respect for my property, he works cleanly, and makes sure everything is correct. Brian then provides open communications where he explains everything he found, what to look for in the future, and verifies that I am happy with the work done. He works with the customers best interests in mind, and has always provided me with good and fair pricing. I realize that this is not a Hire a Handyman rating/review, but I want others to know that he has this skill, which may be useful for maintenance or repairs on bicycles, lawn mowers, snow blowers and any type of powered or mechanical yard equipment. If his Handyman Service work ethics are like his Mechanic business ethics, I believe that you will be very pleased."

Siding questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install stucco siding on a home is around $5,700, with most homeowners paying between $2,200 and $9,100. However, the total cost can range from $750 to as high as $22,750 depending on several factors. On average, you can expect to pay between $7 and $9 per square foot. Key cost factors include the size and complexity of your home, the desired color and texture, labor and material costs in your area, and whether you have a multi-story home. Specific applications have different costs, such as adding stucco over brick ($7 per square foot) or over wood siding ($8.50 per square foot). To save money, you can consider removing the old siding yourself or scheduling the installation during the off-season.

Avoid toxic chemicals that can leach into nearby lawns, as well as household ingredients like vinegar that can ruin paint and sealants. Instead, look for a very light detergent or a dedicated exterior siding cleaner. In a pinch, you can use a basic dish or laundry soap, but we suggest sticking with a dedicated cleaner.

If your siding is struggling with algae or moss, which indicates moisture issues, look for an outdoor cleaner that’s specifically designed to clear moss and algae stains. This is also a sign that you need to seal your clapboard against further problems.

Stucco is considered a type of cladding because it includes a built-in ventilation layer, a weatherproof membrane beneath that, and, often, a layer of insulation to improve building efficiency. The multiple layers of stucco—the scratch coat, the brown coat, and the finish coat—also create a more complex building membrane, so it’s more accurate to call it cladding. However, homeowners and contractors alike refer to stucco as siding.

When moisture infiltrates your siding, it can result in deterioration and decay of the sheathing, cause structural damage to your foundation, and provides an ideal breeding ground for mold. Mold growth can lead to various health-related problems, such as itchy eyes, sneezing, allergies, and asthma. Mold and dampness commonly attract a wide range of insects, so if your siding has taken any kind of water damage, it could invite some unwelcome guests.

Siding and cladding are two popular exterior wall coverings that protect homes from the elements and provide insulation, but they differ in design and application. Siding is applied directly to a home’s exterior, providing some insulation and basic shielding from the elements. In contrast, cladding is installed indirectly over furring strips, creating a ventilated air gap for enhanced insulation and moisture control.
