"The product was well provided and the product was easy to install. I didn’t have to outpunch the old insulation and I could just leave it where it was. The guys were good at what they did. Stinky but beyond that we just let air out for a while but it disappeared in a couple of days. They finished the work in one day. The quality was good and they went beyond what they promised."

"They removed old moldy insulation, sprayed fungicide on the mold and encapsulated a crawl space. Also insulated with foam insulation around the entire basement rim joist, including the crawl space. They were on time and finished before they expected to. During the inspection, when I pointed out bubbles in the foam, they redid that section without question. Zy called after they finished to make sure I was satisfied."

This review is in progress.... upon reporting my difficulties, a manager was in touch and I felt he heard me completely.  I had written: The Manager, Dan addressed my concerns with great care and processed everyone of my concerns.  I now feel confident that no one else will be exposed to the mistakes this salesman made with me after speaking to the manager.  I also feel I understand what the process of treating my yard will be and the genuine concern they will take to make sure my service is excellent.  My research had revealed they were good at what they did.... I just encountered the wrong salesperson.

But, the rewritten 2nd contract I received was about the same price even though I was offered a discount over the phone by the manager.   I emailed back that The prices are similar - the answer was the contracts are correct (that wasn't the question).  I heard nothing more until a guy to spray appears with the 1st more expensive contract, ready to spray.  He was told I was a "yes".  So I am waiting for the next contact to work this out.

So editing this is in progress... My initial review below was based upon my encounter with their salesman last year (which was my only reason for giving them less than A ratings).  I impulsively reviewed Craig Thomas negatively, because I was frustrated by my past dealings with that one salesman and had just gotten bitten AGAIN by a tick (my yard is heavily wooded)  and I got Lyme Disease again.  .  A top Manager from Craig Thomas, Dan, called and emailed me trying to right this. I impulsively reviewed Craig Thomas because I was frustrated thinking about hiring them again, because I was unclear if they were even being effective, because after encountering their salesman, I gave up on going to my yard.  I was light touch about my complaint to their office, not clearly outlining how serious his behavior affected me.   After having dealt with the salesman, I was not sure what services I was receiving monthly, but now am very clear.

MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT:

The men who came to spray were professional and friendly. My suspicion is that everyone there is probably good and their product is good, but I cant bring myself to use them again... only because of one experience... one person there....

The reason I gave such a low rating to Craig Thomas and cannot even stomach calling them was their salesman.  I haven't been hustled like that since... well, since I used to dance the hustle in the 70s..  I am sorry to say such things about another human who I know has feelings, but he didn't treat me right at all.

The salesman had people to see (oh, but he said he'd stay longer since I had questions, doing me a favor), but he couldn't answer ANY of my questions (I was so glad I did my research on the company or I would have kicked this "there, there little honey, don't worry your little head about such details" guy out.)  Didn't know what ingredients were in anything - gave flippant answers.  As if he didn't have to know that stuff.  YIKES.  And he boasted about being arrogant: He said that if people call and might want to book the company that comes out fastest, he wouldn't work with those kind of people.  He denigrated those types and laughed that they had to sign a contract first and THEN they could find out when the next booking was.  He felt the company didn't have to operate that way - where people sometimes had needs above the company's.

I asked where they would spray, he couldn't tell me.  I tried to point out specific areas - I thought the foundation would be good and the salesman said that would be a definite.  He then winged it and fabricated what areas would be sprayed. The sprayers said that the foundations didn't have to be sprayed and there was no way that the areas were correct. After all my research, it felt so crummy to be hustled by this self-important man who was only in it for the commissions

When the professional sprayers came, I asked them about the areas they would spray and was dismayed it was all so different, but I was so beaten down I didn't even ask the questions I had had about the products being green or not.

I found that as it was proceeding I didn't know if the treatments were working or not - I stopped going into my yard completely and I had a real block about paying them.  Not consciously, but there would always be some delay on my end... I didn't mean to do it, but I was unconsciously acting out.  The office would call and describe whatever difficulty they had with my payment and I would straighten it out.  The office staff were always top of the line and so polite to me!!!

A contract was sent to me without any warning, which made my anger arise again about this. I told someone once in an office, but didn't make it a formal kind of complaint.  So, I'd say the office didn't know what I went through, so it is probably standard procedure.

REMEDIES: The only way, I guess, I would  continue with them is if I never had to deal with the salesman again and that whatever commission for him that was built into the last and current contracts be returned to me. I'm in the process of getting another service.  If Craig Thomas's office wants to contact me, I will be glad to update this review, if we can work something out before I finalize elsewhere.

"R-Factor Insulation Company does very good work. They insulated my crawl space and did a wonderful job. The owner Mr. Knapp was very professional and came out and gave a free estimate on the work. The job estimate was right on the price with no cost over runs at the completion of the
job. I had other estimates that were much higher on the same work to be done."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

You do not always need to remove old insulation before adding new. If the existing insulation is in good condition—not wet, physically damaged, moldy, or infested with pests—you can add new insulation directly on top of it for a compounding effect. You can also mix different types, such as adding blown-in insulation around existing fiberglass batts.

However, removal is recommended if the old insulation is compromised by water damage or pests. You should also remove it if you plan to install a different type of insulation, like switching from roll or batt insulation to spray foam. If the existing insulation is very old or damaged, you will likely get more benefit from removing it and starting fresh.

DIY installation is not recommended, as professionals ensure even distribution, proper sealing, and compliance with building codes.

You do not need to drywall over most types of garage insulation. However, doing so can increase noise reduction, make the space more attractive, and keep children and pets from touching harmful fiberglass insulation. If you’re using cellulose or some other type of blown-in insulation (fiberglass and mineral wool are common), you will need drywall to contain the insulation material.

Exposed ductwork can sweat just like ductwork placed behind walls, sometimes even more so. Ductwork sweats—like a cold drink on a hot day—because of a temperature imbalance between the air in the duct and the air in the room. In a crawl space or wall, this temperature can equalize faster due to the small space but in lofts and open rooms, that wouldn’t happen as quickly. Many people insulate their ducts for this reason.

Modern windows provide enhanced UV protection, improved heat retention, and cooling efficiency, contributing to overall household energy savings.
