After consulting Angie's List, I decided to call Ellis Smith because he had a very high percentage of A reports, took pride in doing high quality work, and had done many repair jobs on all types of roofs, including several in our nearby area. Ellis returned my call promptly and arranged to give me an estimate the next morning. After determining that he could not safely inspect the roof alone--it's probably 40 feet above ground level--he arranged to return the next morning, a Saturday, with a crew. They arrived on time, were very pleasant and neat, gave me an estimate with pictures of the damage and a detailed explanation of the repair and materials. They then completed the repair because rain was forecast for the next four days. The rain arrived and the leak was gone! I especially appreciated the expeditious service, the attention to detail, including photos of the problem and the completed work. They also caulked adjacent areas that they thought might develop into future problems. I would definitely call him for any future roofing needs.

Only points I would like to make which would have made it Perfect is:
Cleanup could have been a bit more detailed after the carpentry work. But it is minor. In addition. There was a bunch of copper wrapped around the outer edge under the roofing left from when the former gutters were cut off. I think that standard procedure on these old houses with copper should be to collect and protect it for the owner as it is like Gold in value to homeowner. However they did dig in the garbage to collect most of it for me. Imalsomhad to drive back to work 10 miles each way to get keys as I enter the house in the back through a keypad office and when I got home the back door was covered with plywood and piles of removed roof debris piled their. This made sense. But it would have nice nice to know about these little things as it went along. But regardless of those few minor things. I felt comfortable and confident in their concern for doing a good job and caring for t he little things. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM,,,,,

The result of that is one section sags badly in the middle. Membrane was planned to cover the roofs, but the workers had no idea about how to install it. The material was cut short, and, instead of being glued down, it was nailed, resulting in holes in the membrane. It will only be a matter of time before it begins to leak around the edges and through the nail holes. One part of one roof was supposed to be covered in a translucent material - so that light would get through for plants on the porch. The material used was cut short so that every time the wind blows, the roof material flaps and separates from the other sections resulting in large gaps in the roof. In part, due to these gaps, as well as gaps created by the roof covering being too short, every time it rains, it is almost as if there is no roof at all since that porch is completely wet. In addition, flashing was not installed correctly where the roof joins the house, so water runs down the side of the house. Furthermore, no gutters were installed, so water dripping off the roof blows into the porch. Other problems. 1. While the work was ongoing, a tarp was used to cover the work area, but the tarp was too small and water got into the open area during several rainstorms before repairs were complete. 2. A window in the kitchen was broken, and the crew left for the day leaving it completely open without bothering to contact us about the problem. We were both at work at the time and did not arrive home for several hours after they left, so not only was this a potential risk for vandalism, but we have indoor cats who could have escaped without our knowledge. Furthermore, glass was sprayed over a wide area in the kitchen, including in the cats' food and water bowls. 3. The job went on for 4 weeks - significantly longer than the 6-8 days that was estimated. Part of the problem was that they did not come daily, but showed up intermittently without letting us know what days they would be working. 4. He significantly underestimated the costs and he kept coming back asking for additional funds. We ended up having to pay an additional 50% in costs by the end of the job."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ny/groton/hudson-enterprise-reviews-2080991.htm"},"position":9},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Ticos Carpentry LLC","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"NY","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Lucy D."},"reviewBody":"We had previously used Tico's for carpentry and drywall with excellent results. "American Home Shield (AHS) warranty is replacing my broken microwave with a new one. I received the new microwave on 11/11/2020 and notified AHS it was in my possession. Part of the warranty contract includes the installation of the new microwave. AHS typically assigns contractors themselves. However, this time AHS contracted with C & R Services with a dispatch number on 11/13/2020 for C & R to assign a local contractor to do the install. After two weeks of waiting and not being contacted by C & R or a contractor, I called C & R to follow up on the status. They said it would be 1 to 2 weeks from the date they received the dispatch from AHS. I informed them it had been 2 weeks in which they replied that it would be another 2 weeks. As of today, 12/11/2020, 4 weeks from the date C & R received the dispatch, I have not been contacted by C & R or a contractor. C & R's lack of communication and customer service is absurd. AHS informed me that they do not have any authority over C & R."

FAQs for small appliance repair projects in Alpine, NY
A local small appliance repair company or technician is your best bet if you’re looking for someone to service a small appliance. Homeowners more often look for major appliance repair specialists, meaning the demand is higher, as is the number of companies that handle the repairs. If you’re looking to repair a toaster, microwave, blender, or other small appliance, you should hire a technician that specializes in small appliances.
The answer to repairing vs. replacing appliances depends on the type of appliance, the severity of the issue or damage, and the quality of it. If you’ve purchased a top-of-the-line small appliance, it’s almost always more cost-effective to repair it than to replace it. You should also consider the cost to repair it, though. If the repair cost is more than half the cost of a new version, lean toward purchasing a new one. Your small appliance technician could also help you decide by determining the expected remaining lifespan after the repair.
Small appliance repair costs average around $50to $400, with costs ranging significantly based on the type of appliance, the extent of the damage, the issue, the appliance brand, and the availability of replacement parts. Generally speaking, you’ll pay less for repairs on very small appliances, like blenders and toasters, than you will for microwave repairs. We recommend consulting a small appliance repair technician for a quote before starting the project.
On average, it will take a professional repair technician around one hour to complete the necessary repairs on your small appliances. However, the process could take anywhere from 15 minutes to three hours, depending on the extent of the damage and the specific appliance. For example, removing a built-in microwave will usually take longer than fixing a countertop toaster, as accessing the unit takes more time. Some repair technicians will take the appliance to a shop for repair, but you should plan to be home for a few hours in case they work on-site.
Small appliances typically include microwaves, toasters, toaster ovens, food processors, blenders, mixers, slow cookers, air fryers, coffee makers, rice cookers, and any other appliance that can sit on your countertop. Major appliances include refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, cooktops, washers, and dryers. Some people may include HVAC equipment like condensers and air handlers in this category, too. Small appliances are more of a specialty, so there’s a good chance a typical appliance repair company won’t be able to service and repair small appliances.
