Small jobs welcome

"Donald was excellent!!Never expected my ash tree to look so refreshed and healthy after removal of the ivy ( almost from the ground to the top of the tree)Honest, hardworking. He was at least $400 under the next lowest estimate. He was spot on his estimated time frame. . He is now my go to arborist for any of my work related to trees. I would recommend Donald at Arbtrek to anyone who wants excellent work for an honest price!! Just incredible!!"

"Knowledgeable, on time and did more by far than bargained for, all of it expertly.. I was so pleased I added considerable extra money to try to cover the additional work; the boss divided it up among the crew as a tip. I am so glad I chose Great Basin and will go to them in the future any time I need the services of an arborist."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

It depends on the type of tree. Typically, late spring on the cusp of winter is ideal for trees about to emerge from dormancy and produce new buds. That said, late fall is ideal for certain deciduous trees prone to bleeding sap. Avoid trimming trees in early spring, when they’re prone to disease.

Many consider the Fraser fir to be the most popular type of Christmas tree, but which type of tree sells out near you can depend on region and decorating trends that year. For example, the Leyland cypress is especially popular in the Southeast, according to the National Christmas Tree Association.

After a big storm, you may not be sure if a tree was struck or not. Look for the telltale long scars, like strips or gouges in the bark of the tree, running in sometimes jagged lines down the length of the trunk. These scars will often show vulnerable living wood inside the tree. It’s also common to see scorched or wilted leaves on the side or top of the tree where lightning struck.

Stay inside or well away until the storm passes. Don’t go outside to inspect the tree until the weather clears, especially if the tree is on a hill or isolated in a field. Lightning often strikes the same easily-accessed places multiple times, and you could be a new target. If a lightning strike causes a noticeable fire, alert emergency services. When the storm is over, take a closer look to gauge the damage done.

If a disease has attacked and destroyed the roots, then the tree may fall over as soon as it has died or while part of it is still alive. Trees that die with their roots left in place tend to stay standing for much longer, but those roots will decay eventually, allowing gravity to do the rest.
