Small jobs welcome

"Chris & Trin were very professional. Came out prepared to start the work the day I called and requested their advise. There had to be a 2nd trip due to access problems, but they were very honest, sincere, and very accommodating to our needs. I recommend them without reservation. Thank You Allied Electric!"

"My hot tub power stopped. I decided the first step would be to have the breaker checked. I was worried as a freeze could damage the components. Pedro responded within an hour, was at my house within 4 hours. Pedro tested the fuse, determined it was bad all the while explaining to me what he was doing and the results. Within an hour my electricity was restored to the hot tub! He was upfront about the price which I feel was appropriate. I really appreciated Pedro's professionalism!"

"NN Low Voltage did an outstanding job installing our in-ceiling home theater system, which included wiring, equipment, and speakers. They were very clean and professional during the installation, and we were so impressed with their considerable home theater knowledge. The system, placement, and results absolutely exceeded our expectation, and their pricing was very reasonable given their talent. We highly recommend them."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Compared to amps, volts, and watts, ohms are a different kind of measurement, though also very common. Ohms show the resistance of materials like wiring: How much they impede the flow of electrons. The reason household wiring is usually copper or aluminum is that these materials are affordable and also have lower ohms, which means low resistance/high conductivity.

The easiest and best way to power your outdoor lights is with the use of outdoor outlets. Most building codes now require exterior outlets in homes, so you likely already have outdoor outlets available to plug into. However, you can have these outlets installed if your space doesn’t currently include them.

If you need to visually inspect your Christmas lights to determine which are good and which need replacement, there are a few things to look for. First, look for discoloration, such as a dark spot or two on the inside of the glass. The spot is an indication of a burnt filament. Also, look for missing filaments, cracked bulb glass, and broken sockets.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.

No, it is not safe to use an outlet that sparked. A spark from an outlet could indicate a short circuit, loose or frayed wiring, or other serious damage. Continuing to use an outlet that sparks can increase the risk of electrical shock, electrical fires, and other hazards. It's important to turn off the power to the outlet at the circuit breaker if possible and avoid using the outlet until a licensed electrician has inspected and repaired it.
