"Craig and the men working on my new breaker box were very helpful. Actually, they went above and beyond. After NVEnergy unhooked my electricity so Craig could do the work, NVEnergy said they would not hook my electricity back up until a tree was trimmed. Craig made several calls on my behalf to get this problem solved. Craig was also very knowledgeable and willing to offer advice before he was ever hired. I went with D C Electrical because Craig was honest and upfront."

"I had an outlet installed. They recommended the best way to run the electrical wires to cause the least amount of holes in the drywall. They were very tidy and cleaned up well. They were fast and efficient."

"My hot tub power stopped. I decided the first step would be to have the breaker checked. I was worried as a freeze could damage the components. Pedro responded within an hour, was at my house within 4 hours. Pedro tested the fuse, determined it was bad all the while explaining to me what he was doing and the results. Within an hour my electricity was restored to the hot tub! He was upfront about the price which I feel was appropriate. I really appreciated Pedro's professionalism!"

"NN Low Voltage did an outstanding job installing our in-ceiling home theater system, which included wiring, equipment, and speakers. They were very clean and professional during the installation, and we were so impressed with their considerable home theater knowledge. The system, placement, and results absolutely exceeded our expectation, and their pricing was very reasonable given their talent. We highly recommend them."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Black is the standard color for hot wires, which transfer electricity to your outlets and switches. Red wires are also hot wires. White (and sometimes gray) wires are considered neutral, delivering power back to the panel. Finally, green wires, which are sometimes bare copper, are ground wires, used to ground an electrical circuit and prevent electrocution.

You can move an electric meter outside if you currently have one inside your home. This is considered a larger move, so be prepared to pay on the upper end of $600 to $1,200. When hiring a professional electrician to move your electric meter, be sure to specify its current location and desired location, including pictures if possible.

An undersized whole-house generator has the potential to overheat and shut down when you try to run a central AC system. This scenario can not only damage the whole-house generator, but can also trip your home’s breakers or cause electrical damage. To avoid this situation, hire a local generator installer to correctly size your whole-house generator.

You can have power but no lights if the light switch is damaged. A damaged light switch is often caused by regular wear and tear or loose wires. In addition, simple problems such as a burnt-out light bulb or an unplugged lamp could be the cause of not having working lights.

Natural gas and electricity rates vary significantly based on location, and pricing can change over time, too. It’s possible that in locations where natural gas is particularly inexpensive, it will cost less than grid-based electricity will. However, you should also factor in the generator’s initial costs and maintenance needs, as well as its noise level and if it can comfortably power all your home appliances.
