"I just got my blinds and shutters and I'm very pleased with the installation and of course the look. It was a pleasure working with Peter and Manny. Peter took time out of his busy schedule to not only give me a quote, but anything else I needed, he was there. Peter gave me a great price for my blinds and shutters and Manny did a great job with the installation. I'd highly recommend Peter and it was a pleasure doing business with him."

"It went great - I had 2 previous bids feom local contractors on Angies list - and then my buddy told me about Brian - the owner.  I called him out and learned about window tinting.  Normally he does commercial work but does private homes "by referral only".  We played telephone tag as to when he could come out for the estimate (he was trying to finish the glass polishing at Mandolay Bay), but he gave me an estimate - then met the price of the lowest bidder - and did a super job!  This guy is THE MAN!!!  From start to finish he was pure professional - from start to cleanup."

"I had a bad toilet leak in my bathroom which caused significant mold and water damage in a number of walls. Bruce came in with the best price for the work and started work on the mold removal within 1 day. His team did the mold removal work and complete bathroom restoration including flooring, door frames, and walls. Now my bathroom looks brand new!
Bruce was very honest about cost - in this type of work you never know how much damage you really have till you open up the walls. Bruce's price never changed from the original bid. The work was done in a professional and timely manner and he is very easy to work with."

"Mike and his crew are the epitome of professional. Yes it's taken me a while to get around to writing a review but since we are currently trying to find a General Contractor to do a bathroom remodel, it's reminded me of how important reviews can be. We purchased our own product which was picked up and delivered to the job site by Mike. He also gave recommendations of places to shop and always responded to my questions about different products. The flooring I chose did not have the trim pieces (t-moldings etc) so Mike was able to go to the store I purchased the flooring from and find another product which ended up being a perfect match. He delivered the baseboards we chose ahead of time so we were able to get them painted before install. The job was done in less time than anticipated and to a high quality. I was going back to the UK and when the guys came to tile my laundry room, the washer had to be removed. Mike had it hooked back up the night before I left so I could do last minute laundry and then had his guys take it back out again so they could grout and put the baseboards down. Nothing was ever a problem for them. When the guys came to remove the living space tile, they ended up staying until gone 7pm to get it all removed in one day. It was about 1,000 sq ft of tile. They were clean and respectful of the rest of the house and did their very best to minimize dust. Mike always answered the phone when I called with the exception of one occasion. My call was returned within 20mins. I also received his estimate within a couple of days. It was clearly outlined what work was to be done, how much product they would be installing as well of how much we needed to purchase, allowing for overage. There was no guess work involved at all. We will be doing another flooring project in the fall hopefully and we will not hesitate to use Mike again. I only wish I could find his equivalent for my bathroom remodel. As contractors of any kind go, he has set the bar very high."

"We had water damages recently in April. After water restoration was done, we need to hire someone to repair our condo. The repairing job was not very big, but included many different works, such as drywall in both master bed room and master bath room, painting, install new cabinet in master bath room.... We have contacted many companies, some company can't meet our schedule, some company can only do drywall and painting. Some company's price was too expensive. We are very lucky to find Mr. Chu from Angle's list. He can do all these work with very reasonable price. Mr. Chu did excellent job for us! We can't even tell anything was done in the new repaired drywall. Mr. Chu not only has great skills to do so many different work, also he is a honest, reliable and hardworking person. He always responded my text or call. We will definitely hire him again for our next job! Thank you Mr. Chu for your wonderful work! Julie"

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

Estate shutters offer more energy efficiency, privacy, and light control than blinds. They provide better insulation against heat and cold, lowering your energy bills. They’re also sturdy, durable, and last much longer than blinds (up to 50 years or longer). They’re also low-maintenance and can add curb appeal to your home. The return on investment (ROI) for estate shutters is around 75%.

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.
