Professional painters usually use at least two coats of paint when adding a new color. Depending on the surface they’re painting, painters may apply a primer coat before two coats of paint. Ceilings, trim, and baseboards typically get one coat of paint applying a fresh coat of the same color.

Like any painted surface, tile paint can peel and chip over time. However, tile paint can become especially susceptible to peeling during periods of high humidity. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.

Left unaddressed, these bubbles can burst and cause peeling or flaking, which compromises the appearance and durability of the finish. In some cases, bubbling can reveal deeper issues like moisture damage or surface contamination. Depending on factors such as weather, use, substrate condition, and type of paint used, pool deck paint should last anywhere from 1 to 5 years.
