"Got a quote to fix neglected drip lines and full trim and cleanup of entire yard front and back that had also been neglected for several years….. and got a quick quote at a great price appointment time for it. They did great. Drip lines in action again (they were off while they had got sideways) and yard has actual paths to walk in again. I asked them to come back on a reoccurring basis starting in a purple months."

"They came and did an estimate 1 day after I called them. They came on the next business day and did a driveway extension, 120 sq ft, in one day. Did the work, cleaned up afterwards, and had one of the crew stay around all day to make sure all was well. I would hire them again in a heartbeat."

"Craig was great to work with; the kind of business person who looks you in the eye and can be upfront about the finances. Everything we agreed to/drawn up was seen in the completed project. The contract was thorough and detailed and again matched what was agreed upon. It was the details that I was most happy with. The project was cleaned up, materials in the driveway were swept/cleaned up after delivery, and the overall project was handled with detail; rock placement, plant placement, irrigation knowledge. I was very happy once the yard came together."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

An ideal driveway gradient is between 2% and 5%. Anything lower than 1% or higher than 15% can cause problems for your car or property. A driveway with less than a 1% slope increases your likelihood of flooding and water damage, while a driveway with a 15% grade or higher can be too steep for safe traveling.

The answer to whether or not you need to get a permit before you start your driveway can vary widely based on local ordinances and the scope of your driveway ideas. In most urban and suburban areas, a permit is needed before building a new driveway to ensure that a homeowner is using safe materials and proper drainage practices while designing and constructing a new driveway. In some rural areas, a homeowner may not be required to apply for a permit. When building a new driveway on your own, always check with your local building department to see if you need to request a permit. When hiring a driveway contractor, verify that the right permits are being used before driveway construction begins.

The decision to repair or replace your driveway depends on the extent of the damage. If your driveway has a few small cracks, a simple repair will do the trick. If you see larger cracks and potholes, it may be time to consider resurfacing or replacement. Resurfacing is a great option if more than 25% of the surface is damaged, but if the damage is extensive—deep cracks or significant sinking—it’s best to replace the driveway entirely. A new driveway, with proper care, can last decades while patching or resurfacing might only hold up for a few years before needing more attention.

An asphalt driveway should be at least 3 inches thick over a compacted gravel base. Areas with poor drainage should have a thicker stone base. To install a new asphalt driveway over an existing driveway, the new asphalt should be at least 2 inches thick and the existing driveway should be in relatively good condition.

Recycled asphalt is not better than gravel, but can be a good alternative. It is inexpensive, but not as low-cost as gravel, and doesn’t tend to last as long. Recycled asphalt isn’t as dusty as gravel and is more environmentally friendly. The black look can be something that homeowners prefer. No matter what, ensure you choose an experienced recycled asphalt contractor.
